EA117.com Web Site Maintenance performed November 10, 2020

There were several technology things updated related to the web server, and some reorganization of forum categories as well. So if you're having what seem to be any new permission or technical issues, let us know so that we can make sure it's not something we broke at this end. Most of the changes a...

Re: Election System Based On Homomorphic Encryption

That's a good point and distinction to make, since this article & the system the participants involved are trying to build doesn't really relate to any of the "political issues" regarding election. The election system described in this article intends to replace the raft of buggy, opaq...

Election System Based On Homomorphic Encryption

My brain can glaze over in response to some Wired articles, same as everyone. But this suitability of homomorphic encryption to solving many of the electronic voting issues I'm finding to be really compelling. No spoilers -- I'm only up to the part where Travis County had to throw in the towel, but ...

Grow the eff up the both of you. I'm really sick of it. +1 In my best Godfather voice: "I see you twos got some really nice Internet access goin' on to the server there. Be a shame if anything happened to that. A real shame..." I have a better Spongebob voice, but it looses something.

Re: California Proposition 22

Yeah, "market" is a piece of the puzzle I wrestle with too. On the one hand, the market is definitely there for using ride share. But on the other hand, the "market" of drivers feels more like the calculus of "will there still be sufficient people desperate enough, or newly ...

California Proposition 22

Just curious what any Californians might think, and what any drivers might think, about the current Proposition 22 item on the ballot. I don't have any skin in the game, other than maybe one day wanting to do some Uber driving work. I had always wanted to be a chauffeur because I liked driving and p...

Re: RPG strength

You just need to predict where it is going to travel and try and dodge. Not much different than a zook, but faster. Stay away from walls and such too so you don't get hit with splash damage. I suspect there must also be some factor in the calculation for "how far has the RPG traveled before ex...

Welcome Col. Kilgore. Had noticed you weren't playing with your usual name. 😜 Glad you were able to still recover access to the existing web site account.

I'm correct in stating that player Lt Col Bill Kilgore is someone else, right? Just making sure folks know their ranks and their Killgores. 😁

Re: EA117 Desert Combat server has moved

It's been a month now, so we are going to begin the steps of shutting down the old Texas server. So be on the lookout for anyone you think might still need help making the transition. We've been letting everyone know in-game when they were still using the old Texas address, and for the most part ev...

Here in the forums is the right place for politics or religion to be discussed. Since here in the forums is where we can all easily ignore it. In-game it's not okay. And any racism or "casual racially-motivated talk" is never okay, and will not be welcome here in the forums or in-game. It'...

The Ohio server is shutting down this week. If you haven't already done it, be sure to update your in-game Multiplayer server list , or update whatever method you're using to join the server, so that you are connecting to the current 51.81.48.241 server address. The Texas server will be shutting do...

Perfect! That probably reduces the texture load down to where I can finally run Battlefield 1942 on my kitchen blender. 😜

Any different than just asking for lowest-level detail in the normal video Options menu?

Except for the fact that you actually got some responses down at hop 30, what you showed there seemed like it was typical of trying to trace a host that doesn't respond to ICMP Echo (ping). These days, most any operating system doesn't respond to ICMP Echo as a default security posture, unless you e...

I don't even know how to turn off PB. "Punkbuster enable" checkbox down at the very bottom of the same Multiplayer server list screen. (Not near the filters checkboxes.) Or is that too suggestive of you lactating? I think it's exactly the right amount of suggestion that I'm lactating.

Thanks for trying to herd all the grasshoppers in a particular direction. Since some folks actually like Vanilla BF1942, I don't expect we'll necessarily keep everyone when their preferred server isn't available. But making a plan for those who do want to play DC is good. The access list for the server "is still a thing", even though we've been attempting to allow and pre-allow as many players as possible. If you are able to connect already, that's great, and no additional action is needed. If you find that you are unable to connect, send as a message thro...
