Why can't I see the DC Server?

Post by yashpant »

Hi Folks,

I just discovered this site, and tried to find the DC server, but couldn't (I have 1942, DC 0.7,0.8,final, and extended installed if that means anything). I tried to connect directly using the IP address, but just got a could failed to connect to server error. Is there anything thing else I need to do to just see/connect to this server?

Thanks a lot

One scenario that fits with "EA117 server does not show up in the in-game list" and "I cannot connect directly using the IP address" is that you're running with the Origin-downloaded version of Battlefield 1942 (1.62). The EA117 server is a CD-based Battlefield 1942 (1.61) server.

Another possibility, if you're using the CD-based installation of Battlefield 1942, is that you still need to update from the CD-installed version of Battlefield 1942 to the last / latest 1.61b patch from EA. Typically this is done by applying the "1.6 Patch" (battlefield_1942_patch_v1.6.19.zip) first, before then applying the "1.6 to 1.61b Patch" (battlefield_1942_incremental_patch_v1.6_to_v1.61b.zip) patch in order to get to the latest / last official CD version of Battlefield 1942 on Windows.

On the more likely assumption that you're actually using the Origin version, there is an BF1942.EXE replacement you can do on the Origin version of Battlefield 1942 which will allow an Origin-based Battlefield 1942 game to connect to both 1.62 and 1.61 servers. The next problem you'll run into after making that change is that the Origin version of Battlefield 1942 does not come with Punkbuster, and Punkbuster is required for the EA117 server. So you have to separately obtain and install a Battlefield 1942-compatible Punkbuster, too.

See Specialist's thread on How To Use Origin BF1942 to play on CD version servers for information for how to make these changes on your Origin-based Battlefield 1942 install.

Thanks Trench, the link was useful and I think I know what do do now. For the record, I was using the origin version (1.612).
