Voice Server

Post by Specialist »

How many of you have used Ventrilo/TeamSpeak?

If there was a VoIP server for EA 117, would you use it?

For those of you that may know what Ventrilo and TeamSpeak are, here is a little info on it for wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventrilo & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teamspeak

Ventrilo is a proprietary Voice over Internet Protocol program with clients for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Most users of Ventrilo use a headset or microphone and use the program to talk to each other, similar to a telephone conference call. Ventrilo is often used by multiplayer video game players.

TeamSpeak is proprietary Voice over IP software that allows users to speak on a chat channel with other users, much like a telephone conference call. A TeamSpeak user will often wear a headset with an integrated microphone. Users use the TeamSpeak client software to connect to a TeamSpeak server of their choice, from there they can join chat channels.

The target audience for TeamSpeak are gamers, who can use the software to communicate with other players on the same team of a multiplayer game. Communicating by voice gives a competitive advantage by allowing players to keep their hands on the controls.

I have used the Skype conference call feature during a game and that worked well. I have also used TS and vent but both have updated their technologies since I've used them so I can't judge on the quality lately.

I've used it on 1942 but not on DC. I like it and would definatley use if EA 117 had it. Adds a whole new dimension to the game and if everyone cooperates it is really awesome.

I generally just lean over and scream in Carnivore's face. If he's not around, we use two Campbell's soup cans and a piece of string.

i have it spec, and i would use it if we got it here.

but i have to wonder if we would have a problem with spam here. i for one have wanted to say some stuff, and join some conversations but i was either to busy fighting or to lazy to type it. now imagine if everyone can talk with the press of a button. i am afraid stuff like "requesting reinforcments" and other game stuff will be lost in it. we can only hold about 5 or 6 lines on conversations on the screen at once.

and if guys like reamers and voz 002 have teamspeak , no one else will get a chance to talk. LOL haha :) JUST JOKING GUYS. :)

i have used it befor too....
but... the game was America's Army and I was in a clan.
and even that was alittle hectic..

a select few and i would do it... but public.........
wow ... just not sure i want to hear what people have to say ......
cause some people have been in there parents basement too long and
giving them a voice could be deadly..

wow ...
I disagree with that. It's a public server. Either provide enough channels to divide up the traffic or don't use it at all. Nothing worse than a few on vent running the map.

don't get me wrong.....i'm all for evening the playing field for single fighter vs clans & multiplayer ambushs

I know what you mean nomuck :) Wasn't singling you out. Just making the point that it should be open for all. However, it would probably be a confusing mess. Maybe it's better to leave things alone?

That's the point of this thread, I have had several people in game asking if the server has a teamspeak or vent server. Since I got a lot of inquiries, I asked myself, would the server benefit any from having a voice server (Vent/TS)? I couldn't answer that so I wanted to get your opinion. In regards to the useless chatter.. There will always be it wheater in the game or on a voice server, some people love to talk/ type.

Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming.

I used to play on the DCBB server and they used teamspeak and it wasnt too bad. then again there were usually a couple admins on most of the time, but still it was a useful tool. In all actuality the odds of a really annoying person actually using ts are low. hell, if they cant even get FV are they really going to take the time to hook up a mic? plus, ignoring people in both text and voice chat is easy. instead of listening to offending remarks all game just ignore them.

You can also mute anyone that you are sick of listening too. I forgot about that feature.

I have used Vent and TS and didn't notice much of a difference in the voice quality but the big differences that I did notice is their set up and control panel. I tend to like ventrilo's feature more than TS because it's much easier just to create a name and start using it.

i vote for the one with the option to mute bothersome people......
and if they both have that option then whatever U run on the server ;)
amazingly enough i have another idea about the map quest....
select them all.. at the end of the month poll people to see what they want off .....
day 2 & 3s .... that might get alittle old..

I have/would use either one. It's a must for a true team oriented playing style. I would kick in a few bones if needed, but i say that only the admins we have now be the admins over the voice server as well, no matter if others donated or not.
