RPG strength

Has the RPG7/SMAW always been this strong? It seems woefully overpowered. Some guy kept shooting me with RPG the other night, and even without actually hitting me they could get a one shot kill or take 70% of my health by shooting the ground around me or the wall near me. I could kill them first, but they usually got a shot off first giving me no time to dodge.

Any tips on playing against the RPG class?

You have to shoot them with your bullets.

Ping has a lot to do with it aswell. If they are running 40 ping below you and hit an rpg shot that’s really close, then it’s probably gonna kill you. But sometimes it’ll bounce off and not really register, it really just depends on who is using it. Crash, cyber, and Trench are all really good with the Smaw and RPG, others like myself are pretty horrid with it lol

My ping is 40, so there aren't many players with pings that are much lower.

You just need to predict where it is going to travel and try and dodge. Not much different than a zook, but faster.
Stay away from walls and such too so you don't get hit with splash damage.

And if you are going to attempt a flag steal, make sure cyberdemon has not been on the server for at least a month, or you will end up being obliterated by one of his lazer RPG’s 😁.

I suspect there must also be some factor in the calculation for "how far has the RPG traveled before exploding", with a longer distance increasing the effect. Or at least I have a much harder time trying to rely on splash damage in close quarters. I can encounter someone cowering in a corner, up against two walls and the ground underneath them, and they still walk away after firing an RPG from just five feet away.

Yet I regularly rely on simply needing to land the RPG "somewhere in the same zip code" of a far-off sniper who is camouflaged up against a wall, which makes me think the effect is greater (or at least more reliable) at distance.

Just an observation, does this thread belongs in the DC section?

We could very well be talking about real life rpgs.. so it’ll get a pass for general discussion..
