Hi, I'm Swanny, and I'm here today to tell you a little bit about posting videos from youtube here in the forums.

Posting videos is a fascinating and lively topic, so let us begin.

First, find your video on youtube. Ah! There's a lovely one! Next, copy the address from the address bar. If you notice, The address for a plain video looks like this:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W-hqoJhcQc
and sometimes they look like this:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVpaanzd9Cs&feature=related
In my experience, you're best off with the first address format. On the second one, I would remove the & and everything after it (&feature=related)

If the address starts with https://, remove the s so it is just http://

Take your finely crafted address, and look above the message composition window (achieved by clicking "Post Reply" in the thread instead of using the quick reply at the bottom of the page).

See that button that says [youtube]? click it. In your post you'll see something that looks like this:

Code: Select all

[youtube][/youtube]
Put your cursor in between the ] and [. Paste in the address (URL) that was copied above. If you do it properly, it should look like this:

Code: Select all

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W-hqoJhcQc[/youtube]
After you're done, when you click Submit, your post should look like this:

That's all there is to it! You are now a youtube posting expert. Sometimes when you try to play the video afterwards, it will tell you embedding has been disabled. That means whoever posted it doesn't want you to watch it anywhere but youtube. I generally go find another copy that CAN be watched here, and post that one instead.

If you post and all you see if gibberish, you probably got some portion of the code or address wrong. Start over, and be careful about what you paste in and where you paste it. Ask for help if you can't figure it out. We'll be glad to help.

To add on what Swanny posted, I have also set it up where you can embed YouTube videos in HD.

You will now notice a button next to youtube that says ytubehd, click on that and embed as normal. This will give you the ability to embed videos from YouTube, with the added bonus of them playing in HD by default.

This is how it will look if you use the regular youtube button.

Code: Select all

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7IilzzhwjE[/youtube]

And this is how it will look with the new ytubehd button.

Code: Select all

[ytubehd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7IilzzhwjE[/ytubehd]

I added a new YouTube BBcode that allows full screen. The YT box will also appear slightly bigger so if you want to use the new BBcode then use the YTubeFS button instead of regular youtube button.

Example:

Code: Select all

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoUXRmRt6Ik[/youtube]

Code: Select all

[YTubeFS]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoUXRmRt6Ik[/YTubeFS]

Enjoy
