Every time I try to install it, it downloads then says it can't start download.

I downloaded DC final no problem. Maybe I need to delete Final and retry?

Were you already trying to download it from the "HOW TO: Use the CD-based Battlefield 1942 game to play on the EA117 server" document that Rye provided a link to?

The links for both .7 and DC_Final in that document are hosted right here on the EA117 forum site, so if you were having trouble with that link too, let us know. I tested the .7 download (http://www.ea117dcfanfavorites.com/dese ... nstall.zip) and is working for me, for what its worth.

When it finishes downloading, I click to run it and it says ''Could not start the setup".

I have Windows 10 is that matters.

I did in fact only test the downloading & that the .ZIP file integrity was correct; I was not on a machine where Battlefield 1942 was installed, and didn't test the actual installation.

I too see the "Could not start setup" result when downloading and attempting to execute "desertcombat0.7fullinstall.exe" on my Windows 10 game machine. This is not the expected result, and is not the result seen when executing this same "desertcombat0.7fullinstall.exe" on this same machine earlier in 2017.

What I suspect is that Windows 10 1709 (the September 2017 update that most recently came out, similar to the March 2018 update that is expected to be released shortly) changed something that affects the outcome here. Possibly it's not automatically detecting / assuming that this is an installer application.

Because one thing that was interesting was that I didn't see a "allow this program to make changes" prompt, before the IRSETUP.EXE's "Could not start setup."

At least for me, what happened at that point is that Windows 10 said "wow, that looks messed up, would you like to apply some compatibility settings and run the program again?" (As shown in the following image.) But when I elected to "Run Program" again right there from the compatibility dialog, "nothing happened."

But when I manually ran the "desertcombat0.7fullinstall.exe" again (for the third time, at this point), now the compatibility settings were in effect. Because at that point I did see the "allow this program to make changes" prompt, and it proceeded with the normal and expected installation.

So these are the two things I would recommend:

1. If you were offered the compatibility prompt, choose "Run Program" rather than "Cancel", so that the compatibility settings will be applied. Actually using "Run Program" may or may not run the program again, but go ahead and run it again from the .ZIP file yourself if needed, and see if the installation is now successful.

2. Or, or if the first option didn't work, try simply dragging the "desertcombat0.7fullinstall.exe" file out of the .ZIP file, onto your desktop. And then right-click the "desertcombat0.7fullinstall.exe" directly, and select "Run as Administrator" directly, so that we're not depending on Microsoft to identify this as a legacy installation program that needs administrative access.

If that still doesn't work out, let us know what happened as the result of each option, and we'll try to figure out what will make a successful installation for you here.

Bingo. Thanks Trench!

I only ran that program once and retried. Never thought to keep asking it over and over.
