Unreleased DC Maps

Post by Jim2102 »

Hello everyone! I actually made this post quite a few months ago, but didn't think to share it here until now

Title says it all. These were some really awesome maps that the DC Devs never included in the full mod release for whatever reason. I think these are very awesome, so I'm reviving them by sharing them here with you guys. How did I get these? Well, a few months ago I contacted a DC Final tester from 2003/2004 by the name of "myne", and he sent me a bunch of unreleased Desert Combat/DC Final content (including the maps) that he had kept over the years. Keep in mind that I DID NOT make these, they were made by the DC Devs back when DC and DC Final was still in development. And yes, I did get permission from myne to upload these, he said "at this point, go for it, its been over 10 years". Again, special thanks to him for digging through his old harddrives and sending me this great stuff!

Info about the maps:
DC BeachInvasion - A nice map similar to Omaha Beach
DC Five Inch Friday - An open map with a few docks, factories, a carrier, would be fun for inf, vehicles, and dogfighting
DC Hot Sand - Big open desert map with a few outposts scattered across the map
DC Iraqi Dam - Unfinished map, but has a very cool dam, similar to the one from Kubra Dam in BF2
DC Liberation Of Kuwait - Probably my favorite, a big city with lots of cool buildings and tanks
First Light (Old Version) - Old version of DC First Light before it was included in DC Final

So cool, thanks for sharing!

Liberation of Kuwait in particular looks quite fun, though they are all worth kicking the tires

I wonder if enough people download the maps, could we possibly play Liberation Of Kuwait on the server as an event one time? It's a really great map and it would be cool to play it with many players

Ah you just have to click Direct Download at the top right and then it should download. But here's a new link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/72q5pcpx3 ... 3-2004.rar

I certainly wouldn't rule out a one-time event or similar, given enough advance notice for the regulars. We'll have to see once a couple folks have a chance to play them and see which ones they think might be good. We definitely haven't had good luck in the past with leaving "download required" maps in the main rotation.

Seeing the "Dam" map made me recall that we used to play a Dam-based map all the time in our office LAN, back when Desert Combat first came out. But it's not this one; there was water only on one side, and the dam was immensely tall, and curved. The game play wasn't "inside the dam" like this one is; there were flags up top and down at the base of the dam, and long roads and remote flags used to get around the map. Hinds and Apaches too, as I recall.

Can't remember the actual name of it, though.

Sounds good Trench! Btw, are you talking about this one? This one is named DC Iraqi Dam as well, but different. Screenshots:

Yeah, that looks like it's probably the one. The village out at the crossroads/intersection certainly looks familiar, anyway.

Downloaded em. I've played one of these before (The city one). I'd like to play the dam one. That looks good.

Ive seen that one. There was a control point on top of the dam and the dam was colored creme/beige I think.

Also I'm assuming that these are just multiplayer maps? Are they single player versions too?

If you give me some time, I can create bot support for them. I already have bot support and pathmaps done for DC Iraqi Dam. DC Five Inch Friday has bots but they and the vehicle placements are glitchy, will have to fix it. The other ones should be easy, but creating bot support for DC Liberation Of Kuwait will be like building a ship in a bottle

Also new alley way out of USA base, that you cant enter from the south, only from the north. Also a second control pt as it is in the EA117 current version. Also you can see I opened up both corner buildings at the front entrance to the USA base, but put barbed wired to prevent too much spamming.

Awesome stuff Crash! Btw yes I was able to open your Urban Siege CTF maps in BC and I got them to open in ED42 as well

For Liberation Of Kuwait map, apparently it already had bot support and pathmaps done, sp/coop modes were just broken and crashed during loading the map. I'm just so glad I didn't have to pathmap this one, it would've been really difficult and time consuming, but luckily: https://i.imgur.com/KiEBm4Y.jpg

I fixed up coop/sp gamemodes and the bots are now working on the map. Now I just need to recode better AI strategies because the bots seem confused in the map, they just walk/drive vehicles around in random directions and wont take flags. Btw this map has elevators incase you didn't know, in the Kuwait tower you can use one of them to get to the top

hehe yep

Here's a test version for LoK bot support if anyone wants to try it out. You can either load it up in singleplayer or coop mode in the create game menu: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-UhAZs ... lYt_m/view

(Make sure to place in DC Final levels folder)

I found a great map online called "Baghdad". It has great new skins (seen in picture) and RPG that fires 7 rockets!
