Important server updates, including map rotation announcements, will now be dually posted to our shiny new Twitter account:

twitter.com/ea117_dc

Feel free to follow @ea117_dc so the updates are conveyed to your Twitter feed so you don't have to manually go to ea117.com. If you don't participate in the Twitterverse, updates will still be posted to mchat and/or main forum boards.

Cheers,
JGB and Admin Team

PS Thanks to anonymous birdie for the Twitter account suggestion.

I know Specialist investigated using Discord. He still has plenty of people using the voice server for non-Battlefield games. Seems like he had run into things he didn't like about the stability as compared to the existing Teamspeak. Whatever it was, it must have been relatively significant; since the Teamspeak costs cashy money, and the Discord would have been "free."

Probably need to keep our eyes open for how to easily setup a Teamspeak/Discord "bridge", to let an official Discord server share audio with the existing Teamspeak server. If the Gameservers.com Teamspeak would even allow for running any such thing, and doesn't feel like it threatens their business model.

Interesting, did a quick Google search for merging Discord voice channels and Teamspeak channel audio and found nada. Maybe in the future though, someone will code a bot or plugin to allow Discord and TS channels to communicate. Ah ok, so I see you guys have tried Discord before, it has been updated many many times and is much more stable than when I first started on it. And yes, TS servers cost money but everything voice related in Discord is completely free.

However, I just realized that moving over to a Discord server can be a good thing and bad thing. If you move over, get the community on Discord, it kills the purpose of the online site/forums. Since Discord is so easy to use and very efficient, in terms of voice communication, text channels, sharing images/vids, the forums would become abandoned very quickly. Just keep that in mind. There are a few good outcomes though... As I said above it's free, one BF1942 community moved from TS to Discord and they love it, it's free voice chat basically. A few other BF1942 servers have coded their own Discord bots, so you can type in !info and the bot will come back with a message on how many players are on their server, the names of all the players currently on, etc... cool stuff you can do with it.

Now by all means I'm not saying "Let's do it!", I'm just explaining the good/bad outcomes of moving over. It's completely up to the admins, but hopefully this gives a bit more detail of Discord and what it can do.
