Updated list of maps and mods

All:

Lots of folks have ideas for map mods. We have several modders now in Tona, Hairy, BangBang, et al. This will be our central hub for discussing ongoing mod work. I will keep this post constantly updated via edits. Please reply w/ your ideas, discussion, and/or current progress on map mods below and I will keep this post updated.

Map: DC Urban Siege
Mode: CTF
Version: DC or DCF?
Current status: ?

Jolly’s Ideas:

-Flag locations
--Docks and Highrise
--Tower and Docks
--Tower and Highrise
--Market and Tradecenter
--in front of mosque (new spawnpoint) and highrise/docks

-I could go either way on Helo’s

Note: a successful feature of a flag location is multiple entrance/exit points; my concern about tradecenter is that it could be too easy to block with mines, and docks might be too blockaded by concrete barriers and water

-In lieu of spawn truck, which intriguingly only exists on Al Nas, is a “spawn tank” or “spawn humvee possible?” I recall in AX’s version of Omaha Beach they have a spawn APC. A spawn Brad/BMP that somehow has no ammo would be a rough equivalent, or humvee with extra hit points.

I notice blue has the proclivity to stay put on carrier and/or snipe on rooftops. It happened the other night but I’ve noticed it before. How about: 1 50 cal sniper, one for blue, one for red. If select sniper kit, actually spawn as VSS/car15. Potentially remove some of the helo’s.

On a really old DC Urban Siege server 10+ yrs ago, i remember blue having an alternative uncap spawnable point in far southeast, with a DPV/humvee. Could be intriguing. Leaves highrise more vulnerable and encourages more in-city battle.

Jolly’s ideas:

I (Jolly) personally like Tona’s changes to this map, and appreciate his hard work and creativity on it nonetheless. However, I hear some of the criticism, though am unhappy with some of its tone.

Some proposed thoughts on a Beta version:

-a few folks have complained about lack of armor. While i used to get really tired of playing as red and running into two waiting bradleys every time i went to the blue base, i hear the complaints of some that the lack of armor makes it feel like something perhaps is missing.

-perhaps we change to 1 brad at blue, 1 bmp at red, and have the center capturable spawn come with a brad/bmp, so it encourages actual in-city fighting and renders one of the spawns as strategic

-same idea as before of a spawn bmp/brad with no firing capability, or alternatively a spawn humvee with no hit points, if possible to mimic the AX Omaha beach spawn APC

-i see tona’s point about map being too cramped for helo’s; i think black hawks could be fun for airdrops (and potentially minigun) but not necessary; i actually think i prefer without the helos

Current version is lopsided toward blue. I have a few thoughts on how to resolve but going to take some more thinking. A somewhat simpler fix at first would involve beefing up red’s armor/air force or limiting blue’s armor/air force, and giving red helo a way to rearm/repair.

A totally different take would be to have blue start with all spawn points, and see how long they can hold out.

I know folks disagree but I think these would be a lot more fun w/ the urgency of one side not having an indestructible carrier. It’s thrilling, the concept of pushing one team totally to a no-cap situation.

I love Tona’s changes; I still feel this map was more popular with churchflag, even if it was less even. I think we should keep Tona’s existing changes and simply move the red flag to the church.

A lot of room with which to play here.
Hairy, I suggest tweaking this and not Al Nas Day1, but thats just my opinion.

Hairy has done a nice job here. I have some ideas, e.g., an invisible hole in the fence in the back of red main to make it more symmetric and for the fun of sneaking around, but otherwise I’ll keep thinking. Is NW spawn pt capturable now? I cant remember

Maybe add the helo's with a low altitude ceiling to al nas day 2 instead of day 1. I agree day 1 is sacred.
