Battlefield 3 beta start times, beta codes and more

Post by Specialist »

This comes from - http://bf3blog.com/
The Battlefield 3 beta is set to kick of tomorrow for those with early access, and on September 29 for everyone else. We’ve spoken to an EA representative, and gotten confirmation on a few things, mainly, how to get the beta, and when it begins.

How to access the beta

EA will send out emails with beta codes and a link to where you can redeem the code and download the beta.

The emails will be sent out to those who pre-orderd on Origin (to your Origin email account). Emails will also be sent out to Medal Of Honor users to their EA master account emails.

Steam owners of Medal of Honor will receive the beta code in their MoH Steam page, under “CD Keys”.

Emails will be sent out later today/tonight.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will get mails sent to the email address they used for their pre-order.

MoH owners will receive the email to the address they used to sign up for the early beta (redeemed your Online Pass).

The beta is estimated at 2.6 GB.

Beta start times
For those with early access, the beta starts on September 27 at these times:
5 AM US Pacific
8 AM US Eastern
2 PM Central Europe (14:00)
10 PM AEST (Australia)
9 PM JST (Japan)

For everyone else, the Beta starts on September 29 and access should happen on the same times as listed above.

Once you receive your beta key, you can redeem it on this website.

I got the same email you got above but the early access code I have has five groups of numbers, not four, like the link near the bottom wants.

Maybe we don't need any redemption because we got our key in the email.

Hey Papi,

I'm all dressed up with no where to go. I'm getting a graphics driver incompatibility/update required notice and cannot join any BF3 beta games. My hardware and card meet all of the preferred thresholds for BF3. I've been all over the AMD/ATI support site and they have downloads/installers for the most current driver for my Radeon HD 6780M card but they won't work for me under BootCamp. Since you have some familiarity with BootCamp do you reckon it calls for a proprietary iMac form of that same driver? I've not found anything helpful on the Apple support site nor the general web thus far. Have you heard of any workarounds?
Thanks mate.

I don't do BootCamp but my IT guts instincts tell me that BootCamp is not the problem but rather the GPU drivers you are using. What is the exact error you are getting and at what point you see them? By the way, I don't see references to the 6780M card. Typo?

Thanks for comments Papi, and I didn't mean to ignore you... Yes, I did list my card incorrectly; it is a Radeon HD 6970M

The specific pop up message window I was getting would appear after I clicked "Join Server." Then comes the message: "Incompatible driver version; Detected AMD driver version 11.1: minimum version is 11.7; please update driver at amd.com before playing game." The only option was "OK" and after clicking that, I got sent back to the server search screen.

I can't figger out who's behind that pop up window: Origin? AMD? MS/Windows? or who. I have been all over the web, forums, support sites etc in search of an updated driver for my card and can't find a thing that I can install. So last night I got the same pop up, elected to close the window instead of clicking "OK", and proceeded to get connected with the game server and played fine w/o any graphics issues that I would have been aware of. Go figger.

So now my issue is learning the fkn game and adapting to the visuals. I was sooo lost last night. It was pathetic really.........

Thanks again mate!

thank you for that Beav, but it was grim.... couldn't recognize enemy fast enough, hadn't reviewed and set up key commands, and basically overwhelmed by the visuals. Most due to diving in (on the heels of my GPU driver quirk) w/o investing the time in setting up properly. I'll get to that next time I venture in. You were wise to play a bunch of BF2 to condition yourself. This old dog gotta learn some new tricks...........

Amen Brother!! I played for 5 mins and died 10 times, I did manage to kill one guy somehow. This is gonna take some perseverance to get used to. Hell, I never figured out how to even bind keys. I hope a few of you guys might be on later tonight so I can get some pointers.

FINALLY found a cajun meat market (no smart ass remarks you perverts!) in Tulsa and the wife and I are going to load up for a awesome seafood gumbo this weekend. :D

I'll be on tonight.

Remember, in order to do your keyboard bindings, you will need to be spawned in game and then press escape and go to options.

Did anyone notice there were no playertags yesterday? Was it just me? I asked in-game a few times but no one responded. I couldn't tell who was on which team and I TKed a few times as a result.

I saw tiny blue player tags for my team, but I'm still not recognizing the enemy yet. I had looped around one of the subway cars and was crouching 15 or so feet behind another of my "teammates." Then he opened fire on a couple of blue triangles. Had no idea he was enemy until then. I did get that one kill tho.....

Is there an option to increase tag size you reckon?

tag or no-tag I killed it.

Isn't it that enemies do not show tags above their heads but teammates do?

I'll say this, the Xbox beta is HARD! (least until we get the 57" hooked up at the new apt this weekend)... but man, it looks soooo good!

Yes, but the other day no one had tags at all. It was very hard for me to tell who was who in the heat of things.
