So what's the verdict?

Post by Payne N. Daiz »

Or is it too early yet? Is this game the proverbial fork in DC?

Is it worth the ~$800 it will cost to upgrade my desktop to play it? :? And that's all my desktop does...plays games. I don't know how much I've sunk into parts over the years just to play bf1942/DC. I think I'm on my 3rd mobo. 4th GPU...

Well - I for one could easily have bought your 800 in upgrades + your 3 mb's with the 1st player shooter games I bought since 1942 came out... And would EASILY give it all back just to have a bf3 disc and install code... that's how good it is... Amazing...

nuff said? :)

I've been really happen with performance/fps for my system - I have the settings jacked to the top and figured I'd pull them back after seeing the 'eye-candy' because my (very recently) upgraded computer is just to the very very bottom of the 'recommended' settings for the game (minus my v card doesn't support 11.1, only 11 DirectX) - but I haven't even seen one lag at all from performance - so I've still got it pegged in the Video Options... :/

If I had to pick just one thing that sets it apart from all the others - it would be how much effort they've put in the multiplayer game to promote 'teamplay'.... I've always loved the idea that some guys kill - and some guys have to support the guys that kill... something just fails for me in the idea that everyone goes and focuses on killing every round... In 1942 and sooo many other games everyone just does their own stuff.... Which is fine, and you can go do that - but being rewarded for supporting your team (which is included in bf3) as they go and 'kill' is just AWESOME to me...

Its a great game, definitely invest for it, plus you can play other great games on that kind of hardware other then BF3.

This was my reasoning. Figured if I got a PC good enough to run BF3 (which is pretty much the graphics king currently) at a high level then everything should be good to go for a few years at least. I average 50-80 FPS with settings on "Ultra." 8-)

The game in my opinion is just awesome. Not just because of the graphics..the maps are well laid out for destruction and vehicles go all over the place without exploding. It's one of the better "off-roading" games I've played..the Jeep gets great air.

It's not the end of the DC game...but it's slowly coming anyway and everyone knows that. It takes quite a bit of time to get DC working properly for win7 and PB so that does not help. As far as gaming DC is a legend and I will always play it so far as 117 has a server....but it does not take much to get addicted to a game like BF3 while playing with a group of people like the ones who play here.

I think that spec and beaver have knifed me about a dozen times....and I still laugh out loud when they do it...and never take more than 20 steps without checking my six when playing against them.

Don't be hating either nightstalker...you will get in soon enough and us "rich guys" will knife you anyway. ;)

FWIW...I went straight from DC to BF3. The adjustments that I have to make for better gameplay is taking some time. My score and ranking reflect that for sure...so much information to process and things to figure out I would be freaking lost without people here. I figure by the new year I will have a much better feel for the maps, squad gameplay, flying (lol) and what equipment is used best when. Going rambo is bad idea...you die alot.

Also when i do get it what do i need to download etc ? in order if you could please :)
That PC you posted about in the general discussion forum should easily run BF3.

If you decide to get BF3, you will need to download the Origin client -Origin.comm you will need to create a username which will also server as your online soldier ID. You will need to decide on what type of media you want to buy - physical disk/digital download.

Ya, Physical disc is buying the game from the store, virtual download = buying it online and downloading it, but from what i hear. you still have to download the game even if you have bought the physical copy. (seem to remember swodi saying he went to the store and had bought the game, but still had to download it)

yeah, I bought the dvd from the store - but after the install - which was very quick - then you (I) still had about as big of d/l as the rest of the guys... plus, the updates are Huge, so it really doesn't matter... we'll all be doing some d/l'ing... ;)

very awesome game though - still having a blast... they've patched it a couple times and have some add'l patches coming - I love that if something is jacked up enough that they can just fix it in a patch... my favorite fix so far I think is the chat window/H key... I also like that they moved it to the upper left, but just the H key was huge...

Dont forget that the "Back to Kharkand" expansion pack is being released soon, so you may want to buy that aswell, as we will be running it on our server.

I bought it. I can't install on primary system because it's still XP, so I installed on my W510 (work) Thinkpad w/12GB RAM and 128GB SSD. It totally sucks. I've now been on 3 times. have 0 kills. The lag is so bad it's basically unplayable.

You'll find me on the DC server. Enjoy your new toys all..
