Official BF4 Tag Thread

Post by OddJob2021 »

Vote, everyone gets 1. Yes or No to having tags in general on BF4. Easy as that. You are able to re-vote. Comment if you wish.

I don't understand what this vote is really asking because I think there were issues not addressed in the previous thread, unless they were addressed elsewhere and I did not see. "Having tags in general" isn't precise enough for me jay! Nothing is easy!

IMO, there are three issues with the tags.

First, random players in our server didn't recognize that [117} tag was meant for admins and the [117m] wasn't. In fact, towards the later days of the server I'd be the only one on the server and people thought I was an admin just because I had 117 as a tag and completely disregarded the "m." This is precisely why I don't think adding an "A" would solve this issue either. If you want to distinguish admins there has to be another way.I've played on servers where the chat box would scroll the names of the admins playing at the time. I don't know if this would be possible, but if we want to distinguish admins from the common folk adding 1 letter to the 117 tag won't do the job.

Second, the BF3 server would try to keep clan tags together, but [117] and [117m] tags were separated. As a newcomer to the server, I would often rage quit when this happened because it just felt unbalanced. Nevertheless, when I expressed my opinion on TS about this issue I was told BF4 would not have this tag-stacking feature and if that is the case this point is moot.

Third, I think players are turned off to any server when they see a team stacked with the same clan tags. If we are concerned with the servers longevity then I don't think we should have tags. I've left several servers because I'd join and it was just a server clan/community baserape. The [JRKS] server comes to mind. And ours did it too every now and then.

tl;dr I guess I'm ok with the tags, but if we want a healthy server it will probably do better without them. Adding one letter to distinguish admins from non-admins does not do the job it's intended to do.

I'm sorry if this was only supposed to be a vote thread and not a comment thread. But the last thread was shut before I could express my opinion.

I voted no because I think it has the potential to cause people to leave or feel like they don't belong. We didn't have tags in DC for admins or players, and that server is still running. It is in my opinion a gaming community style server. By that I mean that it really doesn't matter what side you are on, or who you are playing against, you do your best and just have fun. Sometimes you lose, so be it. Everyone is welcome until they break the rules and are treated as such.

Just having some people with tags and some without creates an atmosphere of exclusivity. Whether the players are on opposite sides or not it. Include everyone if you want a steady population.

If the decision is to have tags then I wouldn't recommend the 117m as in some servers the m is for moderator....too confusing.

You can have the server welcome people as they enter with a message perhaps that could include "117 member since" or "watch out so and so is an admin" or "thank you to Specialist for donating to the server" etc. There are other ways that you could go about recognizing people than 117 tags.

ok so i talked with Dan and others, and I think having no tags during the preliminary start of bf4 is a great idea. We'll figure things out as time goes on.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I think the best thing to do at this time is to not have any sort of tag for the server.

We'll still have a community platoon that you can join and we'll also have some 117 emblems that we'll make that you can use for your profile if you want so you can rock the 117 emblem while in game and on your profiles.

Along with getting rid of the community tag, we are also going to get rid of the admin tag. I know that some may not agree, but I feel that this is the best route for us to take.
