One of the greatest things about BF1942 DC, are the numerous choices of planes & helos, and the ability command tanks, vehicles, and other misc. weapons at will. That is what sets BF apart from the majority of other battle themed video games. Simple, clean and realistic physics. Sure, the graphics and eye candy are getting dated, but where I'm having trouble is, when the maps rotate out to a place lacking the tanks and gunships. Players start leaving in droves at the Docks, Rigs, Bunkers, Bridge and Basrahs Edge. Sure we occasionally get thrown a bone in the way of a Hummer or BMP on those 'Berlin' style maps, but I think the Hinde, Apache, A10, Frog, tanks, etc. are what truly make the game unique. Take those away, and you start looking at Modern Warfare and CoD as being a more interesting (albeit tedious) choice for ordinary run & guns.

I'm left scratching my head when players complain about the 'pilots' and 'tank campers'. I'm sorry, go to a server that runs Lost Village 24/7 if it's all just too much to stomach. I don't like getting camped over and over by some hotshot pilot in an A10 either, but at the same time, I love a challenge. We'll bring down the S.O.B. eventually with a little teamwork and creativity.

And lastly, Bocage Day 2 is a great map, however, mixing the vintage with modern planes and tanks, is a mockery, imho. I'll play the map, but it doesn't do the game justice for me. It should be pretend. It's an escape from our mundane lives. It's fun - like playing with the toy sub in the bathtub as a kid - you get into it. Mix in the wrong era vehicles, and the imagination factor goes right down the drain for me. Besides, it's been my experience that the Stang doesn't do squat against the Hinde. So, what's the point?

Cut the list of maps in half. Ditch the maps where base rapers (B.o.Bulge) and stackers rule. And stick with the maps where everyone can have a shot at flying and driving a tank once in a while. And helos with no weapons are slightly dull. That's just my opinion, but I'm sticking with it. If I had it my way?

Gazala
Oil Fields
Twin Rivers
El Alamein
Guadacanal
Iwo Jima
Urban Siege
Bocage
Desert Shield

Okay, one map without planes or helos to keep the folks without joysticks happy - you decide.

Don't let the game die! Tell your friends! And above all, have fun! We'll see you on the battlefield, soldier!

FTFY

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge fan of all the points you made above. I way prefer tank maps over infantry maps. I even love Bocage Day2, in some ways because it IS fantastical. Other than that slight divergence of opinion, I say right on.

The fact of the matter is though ... we're a community. Some people love those maps. I don't understand it, but neither can they stand looking for long range howie shots on Eastings ... that hour, for them, is interminable. I'm in heaven.

We make spaces for people to be here with us, our goofy antics, and outdated physics - all people, not just the ones who like the best part of the game as much as we do. :)

I am a big fan of the current rotation ... I think it gives everyone a map that they will enjoy. I know some are not a big fan of Cornered and Twin Rivers but I think they could be tweaked to a good map. I agree with what you said CP I just think in most cases people like maps that they are good at or that map applies to a vehicle/strategy that they seem to enjoy doing (sniping, helos, planes, etc) I personally stink at all things in this game  but enjoy most maps as much as the next one. I am trying to become well rounded in all the aspects instead of specializing in one thing. Which should make each map enjoyable that way if there is only one attack helo there may be a tank or the 50 cal sitting near by and I can use that with a decent amount of skill instead of waiting for that vehicle to appear. What was rough which has now been resolved is the same style maps run back to back.

Yeah, nice to have some fresh maps. The rotation is a little light on infantry maps. Perhaps add Al Nas? I think, like Basrah, it would be a popular map. Basrah Nites is nice too, albeit a bit dark.

I second Liberation of Caen, and wouldn't mind losing weapons bunkers for Stalingrad or Berlin for a while..

I really think Cornered needs to be either changed or removed. Blue should be making Red bleed if it has all three flags west of the river. Otherwise, there's no incentive to attack across the river.

Hey Specialist, is it possible to bring back the "vote map" option? I've been on a few times when everyone left because there were only like 10 guy playing on larger maps like First Light, Bocage etc.. No admins to change the map.

Also is it possible to incorporate Berlin or Stalingrad into the rotation? At least consider it ;)

Thanks

You bring up a valid point in regards to the vote map option. I'll check with the other admins and see if we can decide on this.. no guarantees though :)

As far as map vote goes, why not make a policy that when no admin is playing, map vote is active but when an admin comes back, map vote is disabled. That would work.

Wake Island is legend. It should stick.

As for Battleaxe, some buddy said that the .7 version crashes the server.

Can someone try the .8 Battleaxe & see if it's great ?

Ok, its time for another rotation guys..
I keep hearing it on TS and in the server, people are tired of the current rotation AND some of the maps.
The mentioned ones are:

Costal hammer
DC cornered
DC first light
omaha

Personally? I agree, its time for a rotation and perhaps switch a few maps in and out.
I hope the staff will consider it. thanks

I think Opus is correct. It's always good to refresh the map cycle, adding some more CTF maps would be a great start (ex: DC No Fly Zone CTF).

I agree with the above posts , would be nice to take some out. There was 2 maps that were enjoyable that would be nice to add to the rotation on a more frequent basis

1- El Alamein Day 3 (With the 42 prop planes)
2- Stalingrad 42

But ya it would be a breath of fresh air with some type of new rotation :)

If only we could remove the darn Stryker from this map.

Server side mod?

The stryker makes me hate this map with a passion (so one-sided)

All,

I am tweaking the map rotation this weekend.
