Today is a good day

Post by Rally Monkey »

Today is a good day. After 3 days on life support and in an induced coma, 2 days in intensive care, 5 days in med surg recovery, 5 weeks in the traumatic brain injury recovery unit, 1 year on disability, 714 days after the crash, $1.2 million in medical bills, my wife Susan rode a bike today.

714 days of wondering will she ever get to do her favorite pastime again have been answered with a resounding YES!

Today is good, hope you all are having a day like mine. :D

Upon reading your post Don, I hopped on my bike, said a few words for Susan, and savored a particularly spectacular ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway this evening. Splendid news. Please give her my regards.

That sounds like 8 of 9 lives may have been exhausted. You think maybe she should take up something a little safer, like competitive basket weaving or something? You live in Cali, right? Spend enough time on the road on a bike here and your odds of injury go up to something like, I don't know ... juggling loaded handguns or something.

Congrats to both of you, especially her. I can't imagine what kind of a climb up that was.

Thanks all!

Your comments warm this old fart's heart.

Swanny you are right, 8 of 9 lives have been exhausted I lol'd at that.

Actually we ride on paved bike trails so usually (insert irony here) the ride is safe. Many trails are between 10 - 30 miles long and there are a lot of them so there is little danger of being hit by a car. Her accident was the result of hitting a bump on one of these trails at high speed (insert more irony here). Slowing down a bit will help to insure that the possibility of crashing like this again wont happen. Of course there are no guarantees...
