DC final maps

Post by Simon »

To the players that have been asking lately, why we don't run dc final maps on this server, examples of some the maps are (dc bridge, dustbowl, and al nas) etc. The fact is we do have that mod already loaded on this server. In order for the maps to be played, the individual players will also have to have the mod downloaded on their game in order for it to work. If there isn't enough interest in the maps, they will not be added.
I've talked to the commish's about running these maps, they said it may be possible that we may run these maps in the not to distant future to see if it pans out, and to not kill the server with too few players that don't have this mod.
In order to do this we need to get all the players to have this mod loaded on their end as well !!!

I have to second this request. I've been playing since DC came out and the current rotation is getting a little stale (not the order of the maps, just the maps themselves). One that I really miss is Coastal Hammer. I was previously told that the maps would have to be edited to work with EA 117. I'm not sure if that's true or not (I haven't edited a map in a while). If something is required, I would gladly offer to help as this is last decent server around (rules, community, etc.). I would love to hear what others have to say. Thanks.

I will spread the word. :D

I know that quite a few people have asked me to run some final maps....but while I do like to throw in some different maps and stuff to keep things fresh, I don't want to run maps that are going to leave people out in the cold.

I have recently been trying 1942 maps from time to time....we have a good group of people that can play DC pretty well...when you put them in a sherman or make them shoot a M1 carbine they suddenly seem like rookies.

Payne,

Although I would want to check with a known admin, according to Simon from the first post, those maps are already loaded on the server. We would need each player to download DCX (I believe) in order to fully play on the server. If I'm incorrect in this assumption, please anyone feel free to correct me. Also seriously, Is Simon an admin or does he just know how the server is configured? This question is just out of curiosity, not trying to offend anyone. Thanks.

Tooly ran the Dustbowl map the other day and the server was basically full - 42 peeps!

It rocked to play!

Thanks for choosing to run some DC Final maps every now and then.
It definitely helps with variety.

Whatever mod we run on the server, clients must also have that mod installed; e.g. if we run DC .7 you have to have the DC .7 mod installed on the clients, too - if we run DC Final, the clients must have DC Final on them as well.

I think DC X is DC Extended? we don't have that installed on the server, only vanilla 1942, DC .7 and DC Final (unless Spec has been up to no good :)

Simon is an admin, yes, and he hates you for not knowing that.

I've been a good boy :)

The server should have DC and Final installed only.

If there are more mods installed... I blame Diad.

Yeah like Rally said I ran Dustbowl the other day...It was peak time (@8:00 EST) and the server was at 48 peeps before I ran Dustbowl...it then had 40 peeps at start and 44 by the end.

Ok so now the million dollar question....

What the hell are all the DC final maps?? The exact names for command purposes... I tried to google a maplist with no luck, for example I ran:

!setnext dc_dustbowl conquest dc_final.... and it worked fine...

but when I did... !setnext dc_el_nas conquest dc_final.... it failed.

Honestly I only know a few of them and Im not positive which ones are supposed to have the "dc" before the map name.

Btw the responses I got from many people during dustbowl were very positive. The players make good gameplay..maps are just terrain.

Here is a list of the maps I ran from DC Final this week:

DC Bridge
DC Twin Rivers
DC Dustbowl
DC Al Nas
DC Coastal Hammer
DC Cornered
DC First Light

I personally thought that First light was excellent. Big map, lot's of vehicles/planes and a very balanced map.Something for everyone. .50 cal were everywhere. Similar to Gulf war2 in layout somewhat.

Dustbowl was also quite fun. No planes but armor, AA, arty, helo's and room to play... also very balanced.

Coastal hammer was a whole lot of fun and a pretty tough map. Again no planes but very spacious and requires teamwork if either side is to gain an advantage. Some armor. Red has uncap..blue does not.

Cornered is tough map for red. Some armor but mostly infantry. There is a cap flag right next to red uncap so camping is very likely. Colonel and myself were red so game was played fair for the most part...but it could go south fast.

Twin Rivers is a vietnam type setting with planes, helos and armor. Somewhat tighter map for gameplay but still very fun. Blue has distinct advantage having 2 uncaps..1 on each side of map....otherwise balanced.

Bridge is infantry map. Very bloody, pretty balanced and a good map overall. Somewhat small (like most inf maps) and camping main could be done if 1 side gets too aggressive.

Al Nas is small, mostly infantry (few vehicles and light armor) and I was afk during most of it with phone call. I was informed that there was alot of main camping and based on it's size may be better played as a CTF type map...much like Berlin.

The kit's are different from map to map..some maps you get grail instead of stinger, some grenades etc. seemed like there were much more .50 cal sniper guns on few of the maps.

I was thanked numerous times by many people while setting the maps and only lost a hand-full of players each time. I always ended the game with more players than I started. I had none of them be over with quickly, and only First Light lasted an hour..but it was a very close game and less than 100 tickets remained for each side.
