World of Tanks

Post by WaffleFries »

Hey guys, long time no see.

There's a new game I've been playing that's pretty fun and I thought maybe some of you might like to check it out. Its closed beta right now but keys are pretty easy to come by.

Some videos: http://game.worldoftanks.com/gallery/video

You can register for a key here: http://game.worldoftanks.com/registration/cbt/

The game will go live in a month or so. It'll be free to play but have a pay option for quicker leveling, more equipment, etc. My name is WaffleFries in the game, add me if you join up.

If you have trouble getting a key get in touch with me through the forum and I'll try to get you one.

Looks like for some reason registering through the website takes like a week for them to send you a key. I have 2 spare keys and could probably get more. PM me if you want one.

There's a lot of info on the forum. The first couple of tiers are a pain cuz you have to grind the XP and pretty much have a peashooter gun. You should use gold to either buy premium time, which gives you +50% XP and credits with every battle, or a premium tank that earn a lot of XP and credits. The artillery make pretty good money too. You only get 150 gold per day so try to use it wisely. Saving for a week of premium time would probably be your best bet.

You get in? I searched your name but didn't find anyone I thought was you. I added Swanny to my buddy list but for some reason in his stats it says no battles. hmm

So, I was playing WoT the other day and a guy in the chat say's "Waffle bf1942?" So I was like "yea, DC. ea117?" Turns out it was Anal Kanal. Small world eh?

Has anyone else from ea117 tried this game? I'm still having fun after about 6 months now, and it doesn't look like the beta is ending anytime soon.

I'd be more than happy to help any of you that want to try it through the beginning stages. (I have maxed out tier 2 and tier 3 tanks, so I can platoon with you and we pwn, you get more XP and advance through the ranks quicker)

If you're interested, special promotional keys can be had here: http://www.shatteredcrystal.com/index.p ... d_of_tanks

If you're not sure, there are a bunch of reviews here: http://game.worldoftanks.com/news/general_news/
But you should just take my word for it :)

You switch between first person view (scope when you are trying to accurately target weakspots on the tanks, etc) and 3rd person view when you are driving or have to focus more on driving than shooting.

Its a pretty polished game for a beta, they have a live version in Russia that just broke the record for the most players on a single game server @ 74k. http://www.gamershell.com/news_108850.html

Just a heads up. This game went live. So any tanks you unlock/research wont be wiped like they were in beta.

Steel Beasts is another tank sim, one that has been adopted for armed forces training. Anyone played it?

I've never played it, but have seen some in-game videos and from what I've read and what I can see, its the best tank simulator out there. SB Pro costs over $100 and its probably well worth it.

World of Tanks on the other hand is much more like an arcade shooter than a simulator. WoT has some sim elements (manually targeting specific modules on an enemy tank), some MMO elements (you start with an MS-1 and can work your way up to an IS-7 or Maus), and some FPS elements (first person, twitch shooting). Probably not even really comparable to Steel Beasts Pro.

I'd make the analogy that WoT is to BF1942:DC as SB Pro is to Arma2.
