This gamer's name is too much.

Post by Soylent »

This server is pretty good about not tolerating vulgar language, racism, etc. However there is someone using the name "I Used To Kill GIs" I think this is disgusting. If it's a joke, it's not funny in the least. I have seen this person on a few times and am surprised that an admin hasn't booted him.

Oh Si Yoh,

I have seen this named individual before. I have even died by his hand a time or two. He seems a "FINE" warrior and he has never created havoc or disruption on the server that I have noted. Never the less, I wish to take this time to address this issue for I think some good and further understanding can come from it.

I realize I am but a mere player on this illustrious server. I do so enjoy each occasion I visit and likewise enjoy the company of others, even if their behavior is less than what is called for. I believe that a man, or woman for that fact, must be judged by the content of his character and not by a mere naming convention.

As a daily gamer here, I do my best to help others when assistance is needed. I also attempt to fully understand not only my own true self, but that of others. It is best to see "Both Sides Of The Fence" for this is how wisdom is achieved. In this case, I feel for your senses and empathize with the foul taste in your mouth that you have for this player’s name. By your outrage, I take it that this is a sore subject for you. Never the less, I must stand in this players defense.

Who is to know? Possibly, this player is exactly what he claims to be. Possibly, he used to kill GI's. Do I find that offensive? Well, one hates to see the generation loss, which this country has suffered over the ages. Very few enjoy the art of war. However, let us realize that this is a “WAR SERVER” and not a tea party. This game allows for the sharpening of ones war tactics and in the art of war, there is no political correctness.

Never the less, let us consider this appropriation instead, let us virtually check the "PC" at the door. I for one feel that Political Correctness is a cancer, one which has eroded away the "GOD" given rights of each of us. In my heart I feel for your contempt, yet I do not support the censure of this individual under any circumstance. May “GOD / Wan-Can-Tonka” Save our Constitution and our beloved country!

Peace!

I see your point Da Nu. Yes it is a sore subject. I'm not a fan of over-the-top political correctness. I also realize that there are plenty of off-names used on the server. Many character and sexual references and this does not bother me. The player in question may follow the rules. Great! Desert Combat is a game, not a war. This guy is trying to draw attention to him/herself that he possibly killed American soldiers in real life, not a game. That is disgusting no matter how you try to spin it.

I'm not a fan of that particular name either, however I have no idea of the user's context. Regardless of his context I don't think its a PC issue. I do think its a tolerance issue, or at least it is for me.

Knowing this is just a game I feel inclined to play and play hard. Often this involves a little psychology not the least of which can be a distracting name (good or bad), a live comment, or vulgarity. As long as its within the rules I don't have a problem.

To quote an old proverb...
Stick's an stones may break me bones but names don't hurt...!!!

I do agree with wat has bin said, but as long as they are not pushin the point or bein disruptive they still have the same opportunity to be part of this great community.

its hard sometimes to not look beyond a players name......its easy to find certain names offensive coz we all have diff perspectives on certain issues in life that get brought into the gaming world.

i for one dont have an issue with this guys name, however i do understand the concerns behind this post.

i had seen the name 'osama bin laden' here and there, which doesnt offend me...just makes me wanna kill the mofo even more....lol

im sure even my name has got some peoples upset....hell, even AIDS name has caused some concerns....but they are just that....names.
id be more inclined to get P.O if someones name was on a more personal level that was purposely directed at me

I'm going to guess that a name like "I kill Muslims" wouldn't fly.

this one shouldn't either.

I'm thinking that everyone should love, adore, and worship "Pelosi's Love Child." How could anyone, ever be offended at that? And the connection to unscrupulous things done in the name of freedom...cough..cough...by Pelosi shouldn't enter into the equations...I didn't ask to be born and I certainly didn't ask to have her as a mother....sorry, I don't know who my father is but rumor has it that her and Harry Reid took a quick trip to Vegas on a military hop....I don't really know...sigh...
Anyway, I know this is really spamming an otherwise serious post...my apologies....not.

Since the game that we play is a war game, we find that this name is acceptable. Granted, it might be a little off color and I understand that with the war going on that it's a touchy subject, but unless this person does anything that that is against the server rules, then he/she wont be kicked.

I appreciate everyone's opinion on this matter.
