Kicking AFK's

Post by Soylent »

A few minutes into the second map (D Shield) I get kicked right in the middle of a tank battle with Osiris. Someone made a comment that blue had AFKs and players were still joining red. Soon after, I get the 1 minute AFK ban. Then I try to rejoin and of course the server is full. Is it the practice now to run down the list and boot people without a score yet? And this wasn't the first time. I like this server and the way it is run but this kind of stuff pisses me off.

I cant speak for the rest of the admins but I check to see who is afk and issue a warning unless I have noticed them not being in game for quite a while and then I will just kick them. Accidents happen and I am sure that the admin who kicked you wasn't aware that you were in the middle of game play.. As far as the server being full, this will happen from time to time and I understand your frustration. I have the same problem only mine is called Vista, it crashes on game loads and then when I try to connect it shows a full server.

you think thats bad soylent i got kicked for inactivity for trying to get help for vent.

my first time using veny i heard guys but they could not here me. so i asked for help and someone was helping me, telling me what to do to get it to work. after a few mins i got kicked.

yes i was not doing anything but stand in my main for a few mins. but you see me writing for help and getting it for vent which the server wants people to try. and the 2 admins who were on i would say i have played with them more than any of the admins on the server, so they know me and that i am a regular. and to add insult to injury the server was no where near full. 26 guys on.

and i got no warning.

thats like going to the same bar for over a year and getting kicked out for something technicol. i play a clean game, i obey the rules. i get the occasional tk ( we all do ). i think this was the 1st time i seen someone kicked without a warning. but i believe i should not have been kicked. i am a regular, play a clean game, played against those 2 admins alot, asking for help for something the server is promoting.

Yea. I posted right after the kick when I was pretty heated. I eventually got back on and had a few fun games. I have no beef with anyone. I was just pointing the problem out. Heck, they may have asked me in chat and I didn't see it during the tank battle. My wife also tells me that I don't listen;)

hmm, Spec how much more is it for you to expand the player slots to a large enough number where we won't have to worry about that?

I think most of us would be willing to kick in to make that happen every month.

We have a couple of comands in-game. We can ask "Are you playing?" We can kick for being AFK, we can kick for needing to make room. Those only work in-game, though. If I'm trying to get in, and all I have is console access, I can't follow players around to make sure they've spawned in. If someone looks to be AFK, and there is nothing from them in the log, I don't mind making room. If it's all regulars who look AFK and there are minus scores (especially minus scores with a high ping) they're gone, making room. I try and be thoughtful about who goes, and when, and if I can I'll issue the AFK warning and wait a minute for a response, but in the end, if I'm trying to get in, I'm gonna find a slot. Absolutely NO disrespect to anyone. If someone gets caught in the wash once in a while, it's unfortunate. Make sure you watch out for the yellow admin messages so that if we ask, you answer.

Mojo, I am not the server host so I wouldn't be able to answer that question. Also, I think that this question has come up in the past and I think that anything over 36 players would cause performance issues server wise. Again, not sure if this is true or not.. this is just what I remember hearing. You also have to take into consideration the players to vehicle ratio, I'm sure you've seen players huddled by the airstrip or main waiting to get into some armor.. now imagine this with more players added.

Just my thought on that subject.

AFKs can seriously unbalance a map, IMHO.

Yep have to agree. You can always find some-1 lookin at the sky not movin.
I'm probly the 1st to get kicked (ping prob) but hey gotta look at the bigger picture an how the admin's keep the server runnin smooth.
Enjoyin the game is great but gotta allow for these little problems.
I am still a great admirer of your server, but unfortunately i'm unable to play as much, server full or ping. :(

Maybe a smacktard meter ...hahaha

Here's my take on the "kick for being afk"

If you admin the EA 117 server and it's full. I agree, just go in and boot someone that's got zero's across the board to make room for you.

It's you admins that have to deal with all of us during every game and it's a pain to admin while you are playing.

So if you see the server is full and you have the ability to console in and boot someone then do it. You guys deserve it.

thats all well and good, but what about players like me who very often have no/low scores because we act as support (e.g.: engineers)???

ya, we're mostly known, but there are others who aren't known as such I'm sure and kicking them blindly would be detrimental to their teams gameplay

Like I said, if you admin the server on a regular basis then you are 1 up on all the non-admins.

Back in the day on our clan server we would kick the lowest scored player to make room for those of us who paid for and admin'd the server. I don't think anyone has a problem with that unless it happens constantly.

Look at it this way, no admin's no rules ... !!!
That's why they are there to keep every-1 in check an ensure the server runs smooth.
They are respected players with added resposability an deserve the right to enter the server however they see fit ... !!!
That's how me see's it anyhow ;)
