BF4 Beta FPS
Re: BF4 Beta FPS
From what I have read it is because the code in BF4 is poorly written. Granted it is still in beta but, the end of the month is official start date.
I wouldn't expect it to help in other programs unless they were written the same way. If you google bf4.exe low priority you will find some people that say it helped greatly and others that say no change. C'mon Son noticed improvement on his machine, which barely plays the beta anyway. My computer had no noticeable difference but, I wasn't having problems with the super low fps drops to begin with. It would be interesting to note if Oddjob notices a difference on his PC.
When you think of all the possible hardware and software combinations that are possible it isn't surprising that some people have no issues and others do.

Maybe it's already mentioned in one of the other discussions, but note instead of using Task Manager you should also be able to start BF4.EXE in low (or high) priority using the "start" command in a command prompt. Meaning you could setup a shortcut on your desktop similar to:
"C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" /c start "Battlefield 4 Low Priority" /LOW "C:\Program Files\EA\whatever\BF4.EXE" +restart whatever
You can run "start /?" in a Command Prompt to see what the options are if that example isn't working right.

EDIT: Trying to prove this syntax worked using my Battlefield 1942 installation actually failed:
%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "Battlefield 1942" /LOW "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +game DC_Final +restart 1
Process Monitor shows the "BF1942.exe +game DC_Final +restart 1" command line was executed, but for some reason BF1942.EXE is simply exiting rather than continuing to run. Seems it simply refuses ANY attempt to launch BF1942.EXE from a Command Prompt (CMD.EXE) window, even without involving the "start" command or any priority override.
So don't know of BF4.EXE will be similar, but for what it's worth. Maybe just try the "C:\Program Files\EA\whatever\BF4.EXE +restart whatever" command line from a Command Window first, to see if that even launches the game, before trying to use the "start" command to launch it low priority.

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
FWIW I noticed a slight improvement when switching the priority to 'low'. That being said, I feel like it's a placebo as the FPS drops are completely random, it's not like I can count how many times it happens per minute or per match. It doesn't matter if a lot of shit is happening or if I'm idle. Interestingly enough when I Spectate, I never drop FPS.
Also, mikeyteh posted this on the EA117 Facebook page: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/fo ... 565960777/
Maybe that'll help.
EDIT: ^ the patch helped big time, yay. Can't wait for the real deal!

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Got the new PC up and running. got most of the bugs worked out I think. Been running a few new games I got for free. Crysis 3 and saints row IV are the two I have been playing. They run really well on highest settings. I get BF4 on Friday!!!! Woooooohoooooo. Can't wait to play with all you guys at the end of the month.
I haven't played a battlefield game since DC so there will be a slight learning curve

Nice Bob! Don't forget to download the Origin client and a set up an account and try to get a username that isn't taken . Whatever you choose as your account name will also be your in-game name so choose a good one.hoppin bob wrote:Got the new PC up and running. got most of the bugs worked out I think. Awesome I look forward to being in game with you again. Everything is the same as DC, except nothing will unlock unless you take Oddjob's dogtags....

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Ok so I got BF3 to play until 4 comes out. (Thanks for the help getting up and running spec)
My question is this. Is there anyway to check how well my rig is running? To make sure I'm getting the full potential out of it. My FPS on BF3 running on ultra was in the upper 80s. That's pretty good I suppose. I was just wondering if there are any programs out there that run through your system and diagnose it to let you know if there are some tweaks that could be done to make it run optimally. I could google it but I trust the EA communities advice more than my own fumbling around.
Thanks for all the advice guys
Hoppin bob---James.

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Hey buddy, glad to have you up to date!
As for a program which'll help you maximize performance during game time try Game Booster, the company that makes it is called I/O Bit or IOBit. They make a whole range of software which proves to be very useful. I use game booster, driver manager, advanced system care 6, etc. Game Booster closes down processes and services that your computer does not need for (online) gaming. As soon as you return to 'normal mode' those things are reactivated. Seems right up your alley.
As for monitoring your system's performance while in game you have your FPS, the universal standard, which you obviously know how to read. But, if you want to monitor specific functionality you can try a program called CPU-Z. It will display core functionality and performance, things like your CPU, Memory, Graphics, etc. How much you have and how much you're using.
I'm sure other 117 guys like Orex and Trench, both computer gurus, have their own recommendations as to which software they prefer. At the end of the day that's up to you. These are my suggestions, hope they help you out with what you're looking for.
See you in TS Feel free to ask any further questions here or on TS.

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Thanks for the input Jay. I will take a look at those programs when I get home tonight. I think my brother put CPU-Z on my rig already. He just didn't explain wth it was I will play with that too.
Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Where is the beta available? I bought BF3 premium or whichever supposedly gives you access, but on origin, it says BF4 BETA - Not Yet Released
Hmmm?

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
I think they shut it down until the game goes live on the 29th. I don't think anyone can play the beta anymore. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Beta ended on 10/15.
Re: BF4 Beta FPS
Ah, ok. Makes sense, I suspected that might be the case. Cool.
Re: BF4 Beta FPS
For what it's worth, there isn't any software involved in my approach. I simply keep a separate partition and Windows installation that is used for gaming only. Literally only Windows, the NVidia driver and the game are installed there. I have to reboot in order to boot into this alternate partition to play, but it also lets me rebuild / reset / restore the gaming machine as needed without having to touch or change anything about my "real" Windows installation where I get work done.OddJob2021 wrote:I'm sure other 117 guys like Orex and Trench, both computer gurus, have their own recommendations as to which software they prefer.

Re: BF4 Beta FPS
I have had my ssd for a couple of weeks now and I am doing the same thing. SSD has Windows BF3 and BF4, very little else on the drive. Keeping it minimal and using the other for working....most of the time. If I really have to I can still use the regular drive to play bf3 or 4 and work at the same time.
