I miss Lost Village NO PARA. It only works if there are no stingers on the map though. Overall the server has a fun rotation. Could use more vehicle maps though because thats the spirit of BF1942.

Thanks for maintaining this server for long! It will be a sad sad day when there are no DC servers left :cry:

^^Agreed with Scrivener07 above. Both the Lost Village NO Para + No Stingers suggestion and that it will be utterly depressing when there are no more DC servers.

Overall this server (EA 117) is unparalleled and the admins are doing an outstanding job. Here are a couple observations and suggestions that I think would yield consensus improvements:

(1) On average, we get max ~24 people at peak every night. Even that is a tenuous figure. Unfortunately, certain maps tend to diminish that number. I think almost every single BF1942/DC map has its place and time. But many, if not most, are best as "novelty" maps, i.e. played only on occasion when the users clamor and the admins decide. Else, they should not be in the rotation.

I am referring specifically to:

(a) Guadalcanal
(b) El Al CQ+CTF
(c) Bocage Day 2 (CQ)

These maps are fun once in a while, but every night they start getting really repetitive. The other problem is that they are far too large. When there are ≤15 people around, these maps start to feel really sparse, and almost depressing. They should be removed from the rotation and played only when there are a ton of people on the server and there is demand for it at the time.

(2) There should be Map Vote when no admins are online. On off hours, the server is often stuck on a large map, like Dustbowl, which is unsuitable when there are ≤10 people online. When there are no admins online, it would be great if we could vote to change it to a smaller, more appropriate map. Then, when admin comes on, just turn map vote off. This makes everyone happy.

(3) All DesertCombat maps EXCEPT for Urban Siege should be DCFinal 0.8 version. In particular, please switch DC Basrahs Edge from DC0.7 to DCFinal 0.8

(4) Many maps are wonderful as both CQ and CTF. It would be great if you could mix in both versions. DC Basrahs Edge is now only CTF, can you add the CQ version as well? Same for DC Basrah Nights CQ, DC Sea Rigs CQ,and Insallah Valley CTF.

(5) Please add more tickets if possible for DC Urban Siege. It is very difficult for and takes a long time for Blue team to get any momentum. 600 Tickets is not enough. Blue almost *always* loses. It would be great if something were to be done to resolve this.

(6) Iwo Jima with 2 carriers feels off. Strongly believe it should be one team with a carrier attacking another team which already has the island. To flip the BF1942 version maybe make Blue have the island while Red attacks from a carrier?

(7) I will echo others before me in missing DC Coastal Hammer.

(8) And last, but certainly not least: Liberation of Caen is a near perfect map. It should be in the rotation, in both CQ and CTF. On this one I am adamant.

I'd argue that Eastings should not be 0.8 dcf. The original cut of Eastings CQ is way better than the DCF version.

i agreed with most but urban seige is a good map sometimes ther are up 20 ppl so i donk think that map sould be removed
map vote is a good thing when there are no admins
gazala CTF is a great map
cornered very good map

Thanks for feedback, Thonger and Mali. I should clarify:

DC Urban Siege is one of my favorite maps. I do not mean remove it, just keep it DC0.7 and try in some way to make it such that Blue is more evenly matched with Red (e.g., with higher tickets to start).

Agreed that Eastings should stay 0.7. But that too is an exception. Nearly all others should be 0.8

Cornered is a good map, but a lot of users *really* don't like it. Perhaps it should fall under category of novelty? On the fence on that one.

I know that bocage day 2 is primarily a helo map and not much for ground attack. besides there is not much to shoot helo's down with. for those of us that dont fly, it really is a boring map. there are a few others but this one mainly should be novelty. I agree with the map vote when admins is not on.

Please leave Bocage Day 2 alone.There are plenty of infantry maps to be played.If I don't like a map I leave plain and simple.You cannot have everyones favorite map.

basrah nights sucks conquest leave as ctf

with so many maps....bocage day2 conquest. 2/3 the way down.

get rid of el ala ctf.....if theres the right amount of people on....its an hour for 0-0

I think Mali's suggestion above constitutes an excellent map rotation.

Some minor tweaks: Gazala and Dustbowl should be moved further away from each other so we don't have two desert maps one after the other.

I particularly like addition of Liberation of Caen. I think Market Garden should be added somewhere too. It is underrated in DC.

I think Lostvillage should be there in *both* CTF and CQ. Same goes for Basrahs Edge. Both CTF and CQ are excellent.

Bridge CQ should be added back. I would also say Basrah Nights CQ (not CTF, for a change.)

Inshallah Valley CQ +/- CTF is also a most.

That said, at admin discretion, some large maps perhaps shouldn't be in rotation proper but should be played from time-to-time when there are sufficient # of players. E.g., Phillies, DesertShield, Gazala CQ.

Due to the few numbers of players, I tend to gravitate to smaller maps, as do most. CTF is always more fun - all kinds of wacky shit happens. Conquest is pretty predictable. After 13 years, there isn't much that excites me about that (although I loved the NO PARA LV! That was new and exciting)

My thoughts......

Al Nas CTF x2 (this should be every night to get everyone in)
LostVillage CTF
Berlin CTF
Liberation of Caen CONQUEST - could be fun
Basrah's Edge CTF
Al Khafji Docks CTF
Bridge CTF
Bocage (Day 2) CTF
Basrah Nights CTF
Costal Hammer CONQUEST - this map is huge, but I think it's a fan favorite here. Only big map I love.
Market Garden ?? - could be interesting, haven't played it DC in forever.

Agree with Jolly Mario - when there are enough people admin should just ask - then set a bigger map alot of peeps will like.

either way, map rotation isn't terrible right now. Trench is doing what he can to please everyone while not destroying the server. Delicate balance.

I say just leave as is, with a bit more AL NAS CTF throw in (when I see it up I ALWAYS come and join).

PS as a potential compromise since i know the admins have a soft spot for Bocage Day 2, i believe the CTF version of that map, with church flag, overall brings more players to the server.
In addition to Mario, I feel the same way about Bocage (day 2?) CTF.
The (server-modded) version with Red teams flag on the Church-tower would be awesome.
This has worked very well on DC servers in the past and I don't see why it should not work now, it might even boost player count on Bocage.

However, and I have pointed this out in Mini-chat as well;
Even tho CTF with Red team's flag on the Chuch would be good for a change, this would leave the Blue team's CTF flag very vulnerable still. Not very fair when you consider that now the Red team flag is kinda shielded.

Sooo.. :D I came up with this, in addition to the Church -mod suggested by Mario:

So I test-fitted the new placement of this flagpole and made the adjustments using WinRFA from the BF1942 MDT (Mod development Toolkit), and then hosted a private LANgame to test my adjustments in real-life... or actually, in-game :D

Works very well, I tested it and it only lets you capture a flag when you walk up the ladder (on the rear of the Tank-structure) and walk up to the flagpole. You cannot cap a flag by walking around/past the Tank-structure at ground-level.
(Which is the sort of the protection gained by the Red team if the suggested flagpole mod is done to Bocage CTF)


This took me about 30 minutes to build and test.
Can do other stuff, if desired / interested.

Market garden...but it needs a heal and reload for red......they get whooped to easy


el ala day3.... have 50 cal take out helo.....

Gazala add more jets....respawn faster....

Sea Rigs....apaches both sides...2 per/30 respawn

Bottom line, more jets/helos.....

again 4 maps infantry, 4 helo, 4 jets, 4 armor.......plus the ability to take em out.

Nothing said here is amiss I'm sure.

I just don't know if map rotation can save DC. I pretty much will only get on if there are already enough people on and others cats I know and love like Cheese or HOG.

Best of luck though. I'd love to see this server continue to produce some fun gaming sessions. I still enjoy DC a lot.

Make custom maps so we can revive the server
make them and see what ppl will say about them give them a test rotation with other maps so if ppl like it then just add some al nas and berlin and thats all

I'd like to toss in a few requests...

Due to the low pop, I think Dustbowl CQ and Urban CQ should be removed, or replaced with CTF variants. I think CTF is the best way to keep the server afloat. Without a high population, you are simply running back and forth to cap flags.
I would like to see Rigs CTF make a comeback.
And Neo, you seem to have good modding skills. How easy would it be to add ladders to Berlin CTF and planks to connect the rooftops?
And just an idea to make a "new" map that anyone can play, perhaps Neo can help again...
Britain CTF. Move the axis flag to the beach near the base with no spawning, and the allied flag to the factory with no spawning. The flags will be close to spawns and will rely on guys to go defend it while giving a swat team the chance to clear the flag and take it. Add small boats, even PT boats with turbo capability. Maybe even a destroyer for each team. Also add a few tanks at each spawn that an enemy could potentially bail and take. I think this would provide alot of action, and act as a "new" map.
