Coronavirus Effects in your area

Post by sanchez »

How are you guys, how is life going in the areas where you live? any changes in your daily routine? Personally I am worried about housing, where I leave is scary the possibility of hours being cut at work or even being laid off, in an area where almost half of our income is for a house mortgage or rent pay.
if we have to stay at home it is going to be boring, even the idea of going back to El Salvador doesn't help because it will probably get worst down there.
I guess I will have to play more battlefield I might try setting up a small network and play with my two sons. Take care of yourselves guys :(

Things in Missouri aren't as hectic as other areas. Our positive cases of the COVID-19 basically doubled overnight but these are to be expected.
Since I work in electronic health record software, we are swamped with the introduction of tele-visits and lab testing for this virus. We work directly with Clinics and Hospitals so it is all hands on deck. My wife is a Teacher and was just notified that our District is closed for the rest of the School year, yet she will still draw her pay.
That is comforting.
We did not hoard but wisely have stocked up non-perishables and meat. Since our children are grown and have long since left the nest, we are in relatively good shape. I can work entirely remotely for as long as there is the internet.
We are not panicked or otherwise fearful of the unknown. We are both former US Marines so we have always held to "adapt and overcome."
Our children and grandchildren are fine for now as well.
We are finding ways to offer our help to our neighbors. Though our elderly neighbors have family near-by, we are reaching out to them in every way that we can. Even something so simple as setting their trash out and bringing their mail to them makes a difference.
This is the time to pull together to help one another the best we can and the best thing we can do is to remain calm and be level-headed.

Thanks for asking Sanchez!

Here in Brazil, the situation starts to get worse, there are already many suspicious cases and some deaths, unfortunately have already started.

The measures taken by the state and municipal governments were, starting today, to close schools, shopping malls and commerce in general, for the time being until the end of April, but this will be reassessed weekly. They are only allowed to stay open: gas stations, pharmacies, supermarkets, bakeries and pet shops.

I, who am a Portuguese language teacher, in the municipality where I live, have been at home since Thursday.

There is a strong recommendation that no one leaves home this weekend, because that is when the peak of infection will start.

My brother and sister-in-law work in a hospital and were not released because it was an essential service.

My biggest concern is my parents. My mother will be 80 on Monday, we were going to visit her, but due to the situation we postponed it, even at her request. My father will turn 83 in May. They live in another city, about 50 km away. The problem is that my father leaves the house every day to go and solve things in the city center. I already talked to him about it, but he is very stubborn. So I can only hope that nothing will happen to them.

I believe this is a time when everyone must demonstrate their humanity and value the things that really matter.

We are in lock down here in Orange County Calif. Only essential travel is allowed. My wife needs a card to go to her work if she needs to go into the office.
And I am in wheelchair so I am really self isolated. It is impossible for me to 'roll' without touching the tires, which are always touching the ground, Not to mention that my face is ass level so if people cough if floats right down to my face. And we won't even discuss farting.

Other then that, we are okay for the time being. Supplies are hard to get but family and friends are helping. It's hard to get pushy and get what you need when both hands are on the wheels lol.

I'm very lucky so far.

My province is big, spread out, and only has ~1 million people. 26 presumptive cases as of today.
More and more places are being ordered to close each day. There was panic buying a few days ago so pasta and TP are non existent but there is no short supply so it is just a matter of time before the trucks re-stock the city. I have a clip on bidet anyways!
I work as a maintenance electrician in commercial office buildings and they have mostly cleared out as people work from home. Corporate is keeping us going, since my job is much easier with no tenants around so I can get more done so I still have steady income.
If they did pull the plug and send me home, the banks in Canada are offering 6 month deferrals on mortgages so that is a huge safety net for me.
My city is also offering deferrals on property taxes and utilities. Telco companies are lifting data caps, likely in preparation for everyone being at home n pornhub and netflix. And EI (unemployment) is waving their usual wait time to collect.
I don't know details of it, but the Canadian government is also offering tax rebates and incentives to businesses to help weather the loss of income and also to help pay employee's wages.
We're going to be ok.

Blink knows there's too many humans on this planet, and that we live in such a way, were it not for the virus, that we'd bring on our own demise some other way. At the same time, Blink sees coronavirus cases popping up more in his area and Blink fears for his family. Blink and wife are bringing newborn baby Winter to a coronavirus hotspot city tomorrow for a surgery to remove Winter's precancerous cyst. Blink don't want no virus to hitchhike back with them

Blink bought a BB gun off Amazon. To shoot squirrels if the food sitch gets weird. Blink has also got the roadkill deer he just butchered and a shitload of wild rice harvested last season to still process. Blink bought like 50,000 calories of olive oil and coconut oil before shit went crazy. And Blink and Mrs. Blink know how to gather wild greens, which grow abundantly in the area. Blink also got fish hooks and line for his poles. The trout stream is a 5 minute drive away.

Blink and his wife and his newborn baby are getting used to being cooped up in a one-room cabin, day in and day out. Blink is learning better communication tricks, or rather, re-learning what he'd already learned before, but what working three days a week and spending one night a week at the bar allowed him to forget.

Blink has all kinds of feelings. It's fun to read the news and cheer for one side or the other, what with all the people saying "Look how stupid those OTHER people are, they're don't look realize the coronavirus is fake/real/serious/cataclysmic like I do!" Blink sees he might get $1000 or so in free money, which would be nice. Blink is working on restoring a 50 year-old small sailboat, so he could use some money for some nice paint.

Overall, Blink doesn't want to die, but is prepared to die, while also being prepared to make an adventure out of this. He even bought some files for his axes, and chainsaw oil and spare gas, in case this stretches out for months and supplies get low.

Blink seems to have a much easier time connecting to this feeling, that's out there in the world, but which most people hide from, of feeling helpless in the face of WHAT IS. Sometimes he wishes for an event that forces other people, and our culture at large, to stop puffing themselves up to avoid that helpless feeling (which Blink admittedly does, too, especially with his wife or when getting pwned by BangBang.) Blink wonders if this coronavirus might be the thing to make people feel that.

Oh. And Blink has already lived a number of years without toilet paper. But Blink prefers having toilet paper, because his shits are smeary.

Blink has had a couple beers tonight.

Nah I've been wiping lately. This was back in my twenties when I spent a number of years living in the wilderness. We used moss, leaves, and dried up ferns. Ever picked crumbly fern out of your butthair? It's a treat.

That's buttbreath you smell. Or as I like to call him, Fragrance.

I hadn't really ever thought of this...I will refrain from farting near someone in a wheelchair from now on...
