G'day ...

Post by oldboi »

G'day all, it has been a long time. I am probably unknown by most, but it's good to some old names.
I still visit an try to see what is going on, but am not able to play due to my location, and is great to see the game is still going strong.
Hopefully all are staying safe during these troubling times.

Cheers oldboi

Hey there Mr. Boi. You're mostly before my time and probably know where Nightstalker buried all the bodies, but it's good to see you stopping in. 😜

G'day Dem, yeah the fires were mainly the East Coast. Life is still keeping me interested. Still like the video's mate.
Mr Trench, ahh that brings memories back, yep definitely do hahaha ;)
tona, mate sure has been a long time.
My time playing here will always stay with me, it was the 1st time I had played pooter games online.
And I still don't understand pooter stuff.
Thank's for the reply's … 8-)

Good to hear from you, Oldboi. While I understand the time zone issue makes it tough you are always welcome to pop in, even for a short time. We are thrilled to have several other Aussies/Kiwis still frequent the server and hope to see it stay that way.

Let us know if you ever need pooter help

I have considered reloading the game mate, an see wat happens.
Are there things that will stop Win 10 from running it ?
The only other problem would be my ping, but that issue was wat made it fun. hahaha …
But any advise before I start would be appreciated.

Regards oldboi

By the way it's great to see my banner still works.

The primary Windows 10-specific consideration is the one called out at the beginning of the http://ea117.com/dcinstall instructions. i.e. Having to now manually enable/install Microsoft's DirectPlay support, rather than this already being present by default.

Other than that, the same things done in those instructions to make it work for Windows 7 or Windows 8 are still the same things to do for Windows 10, too.

Strangely enough, I think that's the only one I manually fixed 😁 right around the time all the "free" image hosting sites started degrading their support for images hosted for free. I had tested pulling a non-degraded copy of yours from archive.org, just the prove the original images were actually still in there. But trying to do that for "every signature or post that included a free-host image" was a huge project we never engaged.

But otherwise, yours would have looked like Nightstalker's or Mordor's does now, too.

Are you talking about the old school regs on this server here, or did your nuts come out of your tighty whities again :D

oldboi and sarge -- great to hear from you both.

re-installing has been made quite easy thanks to this handy reference made by one of our community members:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=6302

In addition to HairyRussianDude's method (which I have tried, successfully), Mali's one-click install link also works.

I have done this all in Win10 successfully.

Let us know if you run into any issues. We'd love to have either of you pop back on the server, even for just the occasional round.

Hi oldboi:

If you can't find the disk, I would just uninstall, and then follow either HairyRussianDude's or Mali's instructions for installation here.
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=6302

just make sure you follow the DirectPlay instructions (viewtopic.php?f=62&t=5308
) if you are on Win10, then you should be good-to-go. The whole process shouldn't take more than 20 mins. Let us know if you have any issues installing.
