Re: Offensive names?

Post by LF55 »

I noticed there was a "Mr. Twat" playing yesterday. I'm not sure if that is a PB listed word, but I would think at least the usernames should follow the same guidelines as banned words. Personally, I don't offend easily, but I do notice names like Mr. Twat, and "Jews did 911", or "I kill GI's", as I realize others may be personnaly offended. I do recall one player being kicked for saying fag, but I guess "Fag-Fragger" would be ok as a screename?

By mentioning these screenames here, am I banned?

I don't mind a little lewdness or rudeness (rated PG-13 maybe) but racism is no good. Feel how you feel, but this isn't the place for promoting those feelings.

In my time playing this game I have learned a lot...and I'm an older person. One thing I have learned is that WW2 was a lot closer to home for our European friends than it was to the US, and I understand Nico's issues with certain names. Waffen SS, by his very gameplay, is trying to grief and push buttons; I would bet he chose that name for the same reason, and you're allowing him to push yours, Nico. But others, just by taking on a name, aren't really glorifying the name itself. I've played against many Hitlers, and enjoy fragging them. I don't mind that. If they have the name "Hitler was right", "death to jews", or "I killed GIs", something like that, then I might have problems playing with that person.

Wars are part of our history, Nico. My grandfathers fought in wars too, and I know WW2 was closer to you because it was much closer to your home than it was to mine. Your grandfather chose to fight; so can you. Go to the opposite team and frag the crap outta players like Waffen SS.

We asked one of the 21st S-S what thier "SS" stood for and he responded "Stealth Squadron."

Waffen didn't get the axe for his name as much as he did for being a complete jerk when asked to have a conversation about it. He was out of line and very innappropriate.

Thanks for the input, Lin. I agree with what you said about Hitler vs. Hitler was right.

I also understand you know AIDS. Welcome to the forums.

Well, I agree Mr. Swanny, but my question was whether screenames are subject to Admin approval as well.

The game itself is rated by the ESRB as "Teen", which according to their definition is, "...content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language." I'm sure they have a definition for "infrequent" as well. In any case, this suggests that players of 13-17 are using the game. Any further definition or discretion would only come from Admins.

i have seen many players in the age group you mention larry, cuss and verbally abuse oher players, more so than adults do.....each server has its own set of rules anyway...some will be more strict that others naturally. i havent yet come across a name that has offended me....if someone were to play under the name of 'jews did 911', i would say what a fckin idiot, to myself not in open chat, and just get on with the game......if someone were to get personal with me about something, then i have faith that the admin will take care of it.

i think swanny has made it pretty clear that certain things are a no go, but he and other admins will tolerate other matters to a point.

its easy to forget sometimes that its a public server, and that those who play on it have no say so on how it is run.
therefor if a regular player or other wise doesnt like how the server is run, or its rules for that matter, then the simple solution is to find somewhere else to play.

Where is the IP of this guy located? In WWII the Skanderberg (21st) division recruited mostly moslems from Albania that were, like most of the SS divisions, involved in war crimes against the Jews. Might be interesting detective work.

Yes, thank you Demonic. I realize this is not a democratic operation, but this forum is the place we come for discussion and clarification beyond in-game chats. So if I press for an answer it is only to be clear on what are the limits, and where are the bounds.

I think that the rating for the game is right - seeing Mr. Twat or Salty Nutz or something suggestive or adult-themed is maybe a social interaction better kept for teenagers at a minimum.

I don't think there is an age rating for racism. We can all give each other 7 kinds of crap for a lot of things, but I don't think negative discussion of color, race or religion have any place here, in terms of peoples' worth, especially if someone is made to feel uncomfortable as a result. It's possible to have a case by case basis, like with Waffen - as I said, he wasn't automatically kicked for having the name, he got escorted out for being a complete ass and as much as confirming our inquiry about the nature of the SS, as well as other complaints about his behavior.

I only loosely enforce the cursing rules, but racist slang will get you kicked immediately.

I don't know that I need to get more exact/precise/specific than that - steer wide of it. All due respect. Like I said, you can think anything you want and believe what you like, but this isn't the place for discussing that kind of crap. There are plenty of wingnut groups and forums out there for that kind of thing.

That is a tactful and lucid argument Swanny. I understand now.
