Console Commands

Post by Swanny-CG »

Guys,

I found some useful console commands and settings on this website and I thought it might be nice to share the info here. Note that I have modified the content to reflect only the info relevant to our server and settings.

How do I use the console commands?
To put it simply (and to the best of my understanding) the console is displaying what commands are being executed, deaths and chat. The console also gives you the ability to interact with parts of the game inaccessible through the normal interface and game play. The console cannot be pulled down in the menu screen, you have to be playing to use the console.

The console can be accessed through the tilde button on the upper left hand corner of your keyboard (~ and `). An transparent screen should appear on top of the game screen, and that is your console. To scroll up and down the console use the “page up” and “page down” buttons on your keyboard (in case you miss a name or number in a list).

The commands you enter into the console give you a sort of “behind the scenes” control of the game. I will try to give explanations to the client (the player) side of things.

The alias commands are the shortened version of the commands that the console actually understands and executes; thereby, saving you a little time so you don’t get killed while trying to remember and type out a long command line.

I will take you through a quick scenario. I want to see what maps are being run on a particular server. I pull up (or down, however you want to look at it) the console. Next, I type in “lm” and hit enter. When pulling up the console it will actually put in the tilde into the command line and mess up your command, so you might want to hit backspace if anything is in the line. The actual command that the console executes is “game.listmaps”. Just hit the tilde button again to exit the console. The aliased commands save you a little time pulling up all the maps that are currently being rotated on the server.

I have copy and pasted a list of the commands and my definitions.

The # symbol that you see occasionally represents a number that you need to put into the command line and the “parenthesis” are not used in any commands, they are used solely for clarification and emphasis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Client commands:

lp # - Lists the players and their player numbers. The numbers are used for various commands. These numbers are crucial to a lot of commands, just remember to leave a space between the actual command and the number.
lm - Lists the maps and their numbers that are being played on the current server.

We have all dealt with the !@#$%^ers that sit in the hangar and kill their own people. Or have you been on a server where your spawn time suddenly jumped from 20 second to a minute and half? Well there is a system in the game that can punish or forgive accidental and intentional team killing. The server can have this enabled or disabled, meaning that the server will automatically punish tkers (team killers) if it is enabled, otherwise you have to actively punish with a console command. The punishment is that their spawn time increases one wave for every tk (so if they kill two people and the spawn time is usually twenty seconds…they get to wait 60 seconds). You have to know their player number for this command to work.

ftk - They said sorry and there are no hard feelings. It stops tacking on respawn time. This command works for when the tk punish is on.
buddylist - Show all the players that are your buddies (buddylist explained later in the FAQ)
suicide - Suicide…instead of going to spawn point menu
ignorelist - It lists the people that you are currently ignoring. The ignore command is at the bottom of the FAQ sheet.
textinfo - Shows how many lines of text are being used for what purposes, used in conjunction with the text client settings two paragraphs below.

Client 'Toggle' settings:

These settings use 1 for on and 0 for off. ex. “fps 1” in the console means the frames per second will be show in the upper left hand corner (“fps 0” is off)
hud # - Removes all the “heads up displays” that appear on your screen.
oldtext # - If you are partial to the older version of text with one single column, this command will revert it. “oldtext 1”

Client Settings:

textsizes # # # - You can set which and how many lines of text that will be displayed in the upper left of your screen. You must enter three numbers that equal twelve or less. The three numbers are in reference to the text commands below. Ex. “textsizes 6 1 6” will set the number lines that will be displayed: the who was killed text will be six lines, the captured flag text will be one line and the chat line will be six lines.

These set the individual text line sizes
killtext #
flagtext #
chattext #
oldtextsize # - This will help you set the number of lines that will be displayed in the “oldtext” command (not sure of max lines probably 12)

Client Argument commands:

Tired of asking where your buddies are? Well, look what I found. Maybe others are aware of this one, but I discovered this while actually making this definition sheet. The buddy command is nice because if you have a friend or a few clan members, you can find them instantly on the map. You need to once again us the “lp” (listplayers) command, note the number next to the name.
ab # - Your buddies arrow is now a nice bright green, this only works if they are on the same team.
rb # - Your buddy is now on his own and his arrow turns back to blue.
ignore # - Blocks all the chat from the selected player.
unignore # - Allows the chat text from a previously ignored player to be seen again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The plain text version of these aliased commands can be found in your BF1942 folder.
…\BF1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\AliasedCommands

You can also reference the "readme v1.31" in the bf1942 folder for non-aliased commands and explanations that are not listed here. The file can be found in: …\BF1942\eReg\readme v1.31.txt

Right now we have the Tk penalty on for .5 of a spawn wave, if the spawn wave is 10 seconds then a non-FTked TKer has to wait 15 seconds for the next spawn.

PTK is on by default; if you wish to forgive the person that TKed you because they apologized for the accident and you use ftk, that .5 spawn wave punishment will be lifted. I do NOT believe it has any effect of their score, they will still be penalized for the kill.

So to forgive team kill how do you enter it. I have been entering !ftk in chat without any player number. Does that work? Or, do you have to enter ftk in the console? Do you need the player number attached?

Just typing ftk in console should work, I have never used a player number and it works just fine.

I use the buddy set up on my own number so I can differentiate my actions from the rest and easily locate my position on the mini map (particularly direction facing when I'm in shilka or sa3)

I think what he is saying is that he adds himself as a buddy so that his arrow turns green and when he kills someone the text is green. I do the same. It helps me to not have to look up to see if i scored the kill.

What he said ... also it puts your position as green on the mini map ... since I use the shilka a lot ... cough cough ... I use the least resolution so I can see the most blips but sometimes it gets confusing as to where I'm pointed ... when my position is green it is easier to tell which way I'm facing relative to incoming blips. Its jus a shilka thing!

Some useful console commands for in game: checking your frame rate - fps 1 and then enter and tilde key. You should see red lines running across your screen and your FPS will show in the top left hand corner of your screen. This illustrates how well your video card is performing. If it's anything short of 70-80, you may feel the need to decrease your in game video settings, as a low fps will decrease your performance.

Now, for those of you that want to test your video card: renderer.lockfps x (the variable being any such number up to, and don't quote me on this, 1000). Provided you have a video card that can sustain that framerate, you may notice your gameplay experience is somewhat more fluid.

These aren't server side commands, just ways you can check how well your system is handling the game.

I don't know how I didn't know this before - there is good chance it's one of the billions of things I've forgot in the last 8 or 9 years - but while in the server, hitting the INSERT key will show the map rotation...

Rye_on_the_Rocks just told me this the other day - I didn't want to say it on TS when he told us (there were several on there), but I have a hand written list on paper taped to the side of my monitor with a list (and several several scratched out items! lmao) of all the maps... LMAO - Rye told me about that and I laughed to myself - but a week or so later I still look at that dumb paper all the time... I decided to throw it away today and force myself to use the INSERT key... which prompted me to write this in case anyone but ME didn't know about the flippin INSERT key... haha, Thanks again Rye!

the constant !nextmap deal is rather annoying especially when the first half of the message is so fast even bruce lee would need a few cracks at it...

But ty swodi, and you said i was completely useless

lol - i didn't see you say that i said u were completely useless - lmao, i didn't say that!!!

i do have to agree with Rye tho (useless or not! lol) - if you could try to shorten your names on a couple of the maps, it wouldn't take two lines to say "The next map is ......" because if it takes two lines, when we type !nextmap is shows the whole first line for about .001 seconds and then goes to the 2nd line which only has the last little bit - usually something like "_desert_combat_final_conquest" or something - but not the name of the actual map - because it was on the first line... so people do !nextmap over and over and over worse than on one where you see the whole title...

How do i change my name in game? i have tried many codes but i'm probably missing a bracket or adding one or something. If you know, please type the code as i would in console menu if i wanted to say, change my name to tom. Don't add brackets or quotes, just type the pure, clean code. Thanks.

*ed People have told me and i quote "It's this, *****, i just tried it, it works."
But it never works.

ed* - game.changePlayerName

That works. Leave a space after the command then just enter new name. New name must not have spaces. Join two names with an underscore _.

Theres a variation on the FPS one. Its one where you can set it to max out at 1000 fps? I think the command is lockfps_1000 or something like that. I cant remember. Anyone know it? Its meant to stop the game from limiting your frames, thus (supposedly) speeding up your game a bit/less laglike effects.

That sounds like the "renderer.lockfps 1000" that ÇreamzØr°mentioned in their post.
