Was that the same guy at the end, sounding totally normal? Did they lose cabin pressure or something and became OK as they descended?
The other thing is it sounded like he said he couldn't control anything but when they told him to descend, he seemed to be able to, right away -

Another ATC recording. This one happened a few years ago. In this one an aircraft makes a long turn and stops on THE ACTIVE runway. Even though they tell the controller, she still tries to launch other aircraft. Fortunately the USAir crew declines the clearance and saves the day. The USAir crew won national awards for their heads up skilz. Nicely done.
