A suggestion for the server

Post by bigsteve »

I first would like to say, I love the new server. I live closer to Dallas than Cali =P Next, I just wanted the admin/owner of the server to reconsider all the mods on some of the maps. I come to this server, because it was the last unmodded/noobed up server left. There are several servers that have mods all over the place, and they are all mostly dead. If you guys wanted to spice things up a bit, change the rotation of the maps, or put in a few others. I also wouldn't mind seeing the server go to DC Final, but I don't feel like it's as important as not running modded maps. I know several players that used to play here often, that refuse to join up with me, because of some of the maps that are heavily modded. Thanks for your time.

I think the only maps we have that might be considered "heavily modded" would be Tobruk and the helo maps. Even those I would say are only sort of modded, with the old planes added. El Al has some extra planes but overall we try and add things that make the maps MORE balanced (IMO).

All in all, it boils down to a matter of opinion or perspective I guess. I heard you though, thanks for offering up the viewpoint, I'll keep it in mind.

I'd have to agree with Steve on this one. The one thing that's kept this server alive for so long is the fact that it didn't get carried away in the mod trend that's destroyed so many other servers. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My other computer will be up and running soon so hopefully I'll be back in there getting my ass kicked within a week or two.

Agreed. The server used to stay pretty much full 24/7 if I remember correctly and now is seems to only carry a crowd during peak times (imo). I understand the work that went into modding the maps by people that aren't getting any recognition for them and it is appreciated but the whole "keeping .7 for the purity" or whatever the reason is doesn't hold much water any longer with the modded maps in rotation. Perhaps think about vanilla dc and play the mods when asked or at the discretion of an admin? I honestly haven't played in quite a long time and really haven't missed it since the mods( bocage gives me screaming red ass!) just my 20 bolivars.
HI! I love you!

I'd like to know where the rumor that we were "keeping .7 for the purity" came from. We liked .7 better than Final when it came out, is all.

Some of the mods may revert. Some will stay. I, for one, really enjoy Bocage Day 2. Some people will hate it the same way some people hate Eastings. Maybe we'll need to pick either El Al Day 2 or Bocage Day 2 to stay in the rotation and have the other one run on demand, so to speak. I don't know how much I really enjoy the modded Tobruk, either. We'll see I guess.

We lost a bunch of people when we switched to the new server, we'll see what happens in the long run.

On a side note, you guys should go get the map GulfWar2 and check it out. If we introduce a new map we'll be running that one I think. It's epic. But go see for yourself and post your thoughts.

I reverted Tobruk over to its pre-WWII tank set and took El Al Day 2 out of the rotation. It is still available for play but will have to be tossed in by an admin. We left Bocage Day 2 because many of us enjoy the helo action and Bocage isn't in the rotation in any other form (plus Grizz said he really enjoys that feeling he gets from the redness).

I'm with Steve on this one....helo maps aren't too bad (if a bit monotonous), but the WW2 tanks on Tobruk I find horrible. As to Bocage...that map was pretty good unmodded also =)

Bocage (Day1, unmodded) was too small a map for 36 people, IMO. I think the Day 2 is good since it's more spread out. I wouldn't mind a Day1 Bocage if we moved the flag points out a bit.

But that would require MORE modding OMG

I find bocage day 2 to be wildly addicting.
