New Gaming Computer

Post by Specialist »

It was time to upgrade from my current system and I found a good deal from Dell so I went ahead and ordered myself a new rig.

I like Dell and I don't care what people say so YEAH :7: .

Anyways, I found a nice setup in their outlet section and went ahead and ordered it.

Here are the specs:

Alienware X51
  • 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3770 (8M Cache, 3.4 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.90 GHz)
    16GB (2 X 8GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHZ
1 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 -- swapping out for my GTX 560 Ti
2TB Serial ATA 3 Hard Drive
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
    DW1502 Wireless-N WLAN Half Mini-Card
    AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
    330W External Power Supply
    Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English

The X51 is Alienware’s smallest gaming desktop ever produced, and yet is powerful enough to give gamers the freedom to do it all – play modern games, immerse themselves in PC hobbies and tasks for work or school, or even create an entertainment hub by integrating it into a home theatre setup for watching Blu-ray movies with 7.1 surround sound.

Total price: $631.56 US -- Delivers in about a week.

Woulda splurged a bit more graphics wise (a 2gig card at least) but that's a pretty sweet deal, especially considering it's from Alienware.

I'll upgrade the GPU later, I'm going to just use the 560 Ti I have installed on my XPS 630i with the GT 545 that this computer comes with for the time being. The old computer will go into the bedroom for the GF to use.

I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

Pffft ... I see where I stand. A simple no would have done just fine but you have to go and rub it in my face your girlfriend is more important that I.

In all seriousness I am happy for ya. You should get your GF a BF3 capable GPU so she can play. Then you could be 9mm Specialist and 9mm Specialady.

It's an external power brick and the max that they offer is 330w, so it will limit me on some upgrades in the future but I can always get around that with a mod on the power supply.

Very interesting I thought you would need more then 330w. I think that 330w is pushing the min limit.

According to Alienware, i'll still have power to spare even if I ran a 670 FTW.

We shall see.

ditto the power typo question - very interesting... and a nice price/setup - from aw :D :D
I would also instantly think heating issues - as mine is about twice as wide open, and half the rig - and overheats just about every time if the external fans aren't on... :/

either way, very nice
