Stupid question but have you tried cleaning or even running a "disc dr" on that 2nd cd. Sounds like there is an issue with the disc itself.

If all else fails, you could buy new cd's for 10 bucks.

like swodi said, I would check to make sure that the disc isn't scratched. Try cleaning it and see if it works. If it still gives you problems then you might need to pick up a new set of discs or install the Origin 1942 version and modify those files to play on our server.

Origin version is the cheapest way to go since it's free and available online. You'll just need to have your CD Key available since you'll need it to play on 1.61 servers - Use Origin BF1942 to play on CD version servers: How-to. You can also pick up the Trilogy on Amazon for around $8.00 - http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-1942- ... field+1942

Let me know if you decide to try the Origin way, I'll help walk you through it on TS or something.

Stu recommended cleaning the disc - meaning No, not disc cleanup - but rather the actual cd that you're holding - is it clean and free of scratches?

Also, as Dan mentioned - you can now download (for free) Battlefield on Origin and play on our server (with some very slight mods) so that might be an option as well ;)

Try updating DirectX and then do a system reboot and see if that does the trick.

You can download the DirectX update from here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... aspx?id=35

Make sure you're logged into the Origin client before you try to run BF1942.

@#$%@#$#$@
I just typed this - and then hit the wrong button instead of submit - so having to re-type it!

Do you have any other pc you could just try installing from the cd's just to see if another pc can read your bf disc's? This could prove that your cd's are good or bad.

Another thought, sorta a hassle - but if your main pc has enough free space you could create a 2nd partition and install a copy of Windows (so it's now dual boot, meaning you can select which OS to boot up to when you start you pc) to it and then attempt to install bf to the new partition - this would show that your cd's work or not and it's a problem with your main OS...

Just tossing out ideas since we're not coming up with much :/

Are you the only one using this PC?

If not or even if so I guess, does your user have administrative rights?

Is the the same PC you played on before?

If not is it up to spec i.e. speed, memory, etc.

Was it moved? Is there a possibility of a loose connection where something is not seated properly? If in question reseat everything for S&G's

OK I had some time to do some digging. This is from a guy with the same problem. Here is what he was told.

1. Your CD(s) are scratched ... (try a Disc Dr like I said)
2. Your CD ROM drive is dirty or defective. (Clean or replace)
3. Your CD's are scratched (did I already mention that) replace them.
4. Other hardware problems like the motherboard, RAM, etc.

Make sure after you do the Disc Dr and clean your CD ROM drive you uninstall BF1942 in ADD/REMOVE Programs BEFORE you try to reinstall.

You are correct on the CD drive. I take it you do not have a disc Dr. Do you have a buffer? Like the ones used for cars? If nothing else try toothpaste. Just make sure to polish from the center out.

Oh god... Remind me to never take apart your computer. I thought the worst thing I'd seen was someone with enough hair inside the case to build 2.5 cats. But now I'm picturing toothpaste coating the inside surfaces of the computer after being spun off at several thousand RPM...

If the problem is in the disc you could always try the Origin version of BF1942. That could rule out the disc if it does work and you can play on the test server. I believe the original server only allows CD-rom users though :(
