Random Kicks
Has anyone ever experienced random kicks back to the game menu. There is no rhyme nor reason that I can think of. Only happens with DC and there is not a set amount of time that "kick" will happen. I have not changed anything, I have not loaded any new mods, maps, etc. Playing on the same network I have for a long time and it does not really seem to be an issue with the network as I can reconnect instantly????

Re: Random Kicks
Obviously you turned it on/off again? Have you recently updated your computer? Installed new programs? Sounds like either there's a glitch in the DC or you need to fresh install.
Does it actually KICK or is it a Disconnect? I know if someone turns on our microwave we lose internet for the specified time that it's on.

Yes COW I should have said disconnect. It goes back to the server screen under the multiplayer tab.
The only thing I have done was deleted or moved to external drives. i.e. pictures, documents, videos, etc. Nothing game related.

Maybe your router/modem is pooped!
Does it do this in other games? or just DC? Firewall and all that stuff ok still?

If all else fails, you could try the Origin version.

Re: Random Kicks
How do you connect to the server? I used to always have this problem when joining servers directly through xfire, random kicks during game with seemingly no pattern. I now only connect by first loading the game and then using the in-game server list and things are fine. I'm not really sure how this differs from connecting with xfire, but it got rid of that problem.
Maybe try connecting to the server in a different way and see if that makes a difference (e.g. make a shortcut that connects directly to the server: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +restart 1 +game DC_Final +joinServer 8.12.64.130:14567)
Good luck!

Re: Random Kicks
So many different things it "could be". Reloading the game does reset a couple things and might do it, but doesn't seem like the most likely culprit.
Is the disconnect that you see the same as when the server crashes? e.g. Your player suddenly starts "running in place" for a bit letting you know something bad is about to happen, and then after 5 seconds or so you're booted out to the "disconnected from server" message?
Or is this more unusual, like being dropped back to the game menu without a message and without any warning, more like something crashed unexpectedly?
I kind of like the idea of trying the Origin version, because you could do that on the same machine and thereby "leave all other variables the same". If its some change in local firewall or malware prevention software, or if its your router / network connection, the issue should continue to exhibit even with the Origin version. Down side being it will take up all that hard drive room you just freed up.
Other investigation approaches that come to mind involve having a second computer. e.g. Trying even the CD-ROM based game on a separate machine, to try and prove it must be the network connection versus the computer you normally play from. Or if not the full game, running a Visual Ping-type program that will be frequently traceroute'ing your network connection to the server in the background, so that we you have the problem you can review whether something went bad with the network connection around that same time.
Seems like a lot of work for just a game you're not that good at, though.

Nighty - check your firewall and antivirus settings too. See if that's somehow kicking in.

Only thing is I'm not sure if it'd be firewall, 'cause it'd block right away no?

Re: Random Kicks
It drives me crazy night too, I tried reinstalling pb ie: uninstalling it from the files and reinstalling the one offered on the download section not the tanks version btw....its helped alittle
I found rebooting my modem before jumping also helps...oddly enough when i lagg i don't get kicked but when i play really well and in first place i get a clean kick(i still think its you kicking me btw;-))
I called my ip provider and they insist on selling me a faster modem for over 200 bucks and its my problem ....needless to say i told them to go jump in the lake...but i really think its your router or modem as it is mine too... they dont last for ever but i have to pick my financial fights and i will let you know if it makes a difference when i do upgrade.
BTW i built a new kick ass system in December of last year and it didn't really change ...my graphic card or lack thereof (i have the new mother board with a good on board graphics card ) i plan on making the upgrade on that too soon. I will keep you posted

LMAO .... I am uninstalling right now. It was nice playing with y'all.Trench wrote: Seems like a lot of work for just a game you're not that good at, though.

Rye were you having issues with anything internet related?
I am not as I can surf the net or play another game without any issues. This also happens when I am on other networks.
Sean I use that link like you posted where my target takes me directly to the server.
I am liking the thought of trying the Origin version.

Re: Random Kicks
no none at all but i haven't played any other games for a long time....i have cable and my isp provider stated my signal is strong but my download and up load speeds could improve dramatically with the new modem and ideal for gaming...also my wonderful provider has been well noted for throttling internet usage and apparently with the new modem its more lenient...(can you spell cash grab)...buggers should give me 2 for free one for later on and a blonde Goddess to install them and fan me while i play..(ok so i am getting off topic)

Re: Random Kicks
Hmmm, well I guess in your case I could see if the modem is the bottleneck or choke point of your system then it might be worth looking into. Now I do not know if I would buy one from them as you can find them elsewhere for ALOT cheaper than that. I think our ISP "provide" a modem. And if it goes bad or not working properly they replace it. I think that is the way it works but most people do not do that as you are charged an extra 5 or 10 dollars a month.
I did some looking real quick and you can get the top of the line modem for less than 90 bucks. Of course just like all ISP's they are hoping people do not look on their own and just think it is the best thing for them as it is what they (the ISP) are providing.
I updated my video driver yesterday as I got an error after I went back to my home screen. It said something about a Win 8 video driver setting???? I have Windows 7 which really threw me off. Well I go to d/l the driver and it is for Win7 + 8 so I thought I was good to go. NOPE ... about 20 seconds into the game ... disconnected. Tried through my works network and same problems so it has to be something to do with my PC/game.
I can play any other game no problem. Even the WoT game which seems to be more of a stress on the video card than DC does not crash. I am getting 40-70 fps on WoT where I get in the 100's with DC.
I think I am going to uninstall/reinstall as I have the room but not alot in order to try the Origin version.

Re: Random Kicks
its the quickest and easiest fix, i usually find that just pb has to be uninstalled and reinstalled but a complete reinstall doesn't take very long anyway and is the first line of attack for such a problem..it might be worth noting that u should make sure you don't have any residual files that just get reinstated ie: look up pb and residual ea games files and delete those too it may or may not help...just a thought
as for my modem i have to buy the one Rogers says and ya the want another 10 bucks a month...it used to be free replacement and upgrade(they claim its more of an upgrade to a gaming one) i checked with various bloggs and warned that it wont work with aftermarket ones ....gotta love these guys as if my 250 a month isnt enough

Re: Random Kicks
well in all due fairness for internet only its 60 bucks (plus 10 bucks for modem) but i am sure i am still getting ripped off for what i get...but i am still convinced that throttling is an issue for alot of people everywhere its a new norm

Re: Random Kicks
I agree with you on that. If I am paying for X amount of Mbps I expect X amount. Of course most of that throttling is written in the contract so not much you can do.

Re: Random Kicks
I've been kicked from the server many times lately. I checked everything possible (reinstall and update PB, adjust firewall settings, videocard driver, etc) and nothing really helped till I cleaned up my registry (one directX file was corrupted).

hi spill guts
I have always be reluctant to fudge with my registry, i really dont believe its that for me either..its highly unlikely that an old system and a brand spanking new system would have bad registry files..
But if you know of a safe to use program or where you get good info on this matter i am all ears..keep in mind i am using windows 8....i know i know but i like it anyway
