video card

ok folks, i have to upgrade my video card, and i am not sure what to get. i have been using nvidia stuff for a while and i love it. i am using a 9600gt nvidia right now, but i need something newer and I dont have alot of money to do it. i have the last softwear update for it and installed but i think that may be what is causing lag on my system. what should i get or do? thanks
