punk buster kicks me!

i recently updated my punk buster and now every time i join a game it kicks me strayt away!
any ideas of how to fix this?

turn your hacks off ? I'm just kidding. Maybe some how punkbuster updated wrong, I would try installing a second time just to make sure.

and if that doesn't work, If you normally use auto installer (like most people) maybe you can try installing it manually ?

So instead of using the first link "PBSetup" you can try clicking on the second
"For Players Filename: pbsec.htm" and then use the following instructions I quoted to install it

PunkBuster (BF1942) Security Files
The following files are only needed if your PunkBuster doesn't update by itself. Right click the appropriate link below and choose "save as" to your "pb" folder - make sure the file you save is saved with the filename shown below.

To Manually update your local PunkBuster Security Files, choose "Save As" from your Web Browser's "File" Menu and explore to find your game folder "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\" and the subfolder called "pb", then save this file in that location (/pb/pbsec.htm or /pb/pbsecsv.htm). The next time you start your game, your PunkBuster will have the latest security information necessary to accept auto-updates from PB Servers.

When your getting kicked, does it say you've been kicked for not updating PunkBuster or does it just say "Kicked from Server"?

Have you installed anything recently, like OneCare, ZoneAlarm or any other type of software, maybe (or maybe not) including a firewall? Have you changed your Windows Firewall config at all? You could try turning off your firewall(s) temporarily and see if that fixes it for you.

OS Privs usually mean you don't have administrative rights on your PC. I'm assuming you didn't take those away from yourself, so how about PBSETUP.exe? Get it from here and follow the instructions (or see Step 3 below).

If PBSETUP doesn't work for you, here is some info on reinstalling punkbuster (borrowed from http://woolfy.flotserver.net/PunkBuster ... unkBuster/):

PunkBuster Reinstall
If you are having trouble with PunkBuster, such as getting kicked or disconnected from the game, please follow the steps listed below. Be sure to follow the steps exactly and in order to completely reinstall PunkBuster. If you skip a step, you may not solve your problem.

Step 1 - Uninstall
Before you reinstall PunkBuster, it's best to first uninstall it first, so that we can start out fresh.
1. Download pbsvc.exe from here, the utility which will allow you to uninstall and reinstall PunkBuster.
2. Open pbsvc.exe and select Un-Install/Remove PunkBuster Service.
3. Go to your Battlefield 2142 Folder (C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2142) and delete the /pb/ folder.

Step 2 - Reinstall
Once the uninstall has been completed, you can reinstall the PunkBuster Service.
1. Open pbsvc.exe again, but this time select Install/Re-Install PunkBuster Service.
2. If you have a firewall, be sure to allow PunkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe access to the internet.

After installing, it will test your services. Make sure that you get a "Test completed successfully without error." message.

Step 3 - Update PunkBuster
Finally, after you've finished the un-install and re-install steps, you should update PunkBuster.
1. Download pbsetup.exe, the utility to update PunkBuster (see my link at the top of this post).
2. Open pbsetup.exe and allow it to check for updates.
3. Click the "Add a Game" button at the top.
4. Select the game you wish to update, and make sure the path is correct.
5. Click the "Check for Updates" button at the top.

It may seem like a lot but these steps are pretty well laid out.

Other than that, you might need a reload of the whole game from scratch. Mr. MOJORyder has posted steps and links in this very same forum on how to do that.

Hopefully the above gets you sorted quickly. Please report back with your results so we can either keep digging or pass the answer to the next guy.

I am getting the error just "kicked from Server" as you mentioned. I didn't do any install or update or anything since last time (yesterday) i joined normally.

Hi again, i tried to connect today. Still not working (kicked from server)
Do you believe it has something to do with the key ? Because I have a cracked one and sometimes i receive cd key in use.
I want to buy one, do know where can i buy game keys online (btw, i live in Europe)? In 3 weeks i will go to Denver (will be first time in US ) for 5 days, are there any stores that sell such old games? I mean its USA, there must be huge franchises stores that have everything you desire.

Congrats on visiting the states for the first time. I hope you enjoy yourself. Once you're in town, try stopping buy Best Buy or a local Target. If you can't find the collection pack, Bf1942/Vietnam/R2R, try looking on amazon.com. Hope this helps you!

thank you, i am sure it will be great. I will definitely give these stores a visit.
I checked amazon, the collection is only for 10$. Unfortunately it will take at least 15 days shipping . So it will be the same if i buy it personally from the US.

I think now the PB support for 1942 is gone it will be much harder to find in a brick and mortar store. If you can find it somewhere, amazon or wherever, I would just pick it up. Have it delivered to wherever you are staying in the US if the shipping to your house costs too much.

Its working again. I didn't do anything, i just tried to connect and it did.
